I would reach out to the landowner and ask permission to drive through their property and tell them that you only are interested in hunting the public ground. I’ve been successful with that in the past.
I followed the instructions in the above link from Wapiti Bob but the only options I see are for Spring Bear? Nothing for the deer tag I applied for. Am I missing something?
It’s not “destroying” X6A. There will be some good mosaic burn pattern in some areas and some moonscape in other places. It is what is and it sucks for those that have the tag this year for sure.
Folks,
IDFG is solely funded by hunters and fisherman. The legislature has very little say (yes I know they changed the trespassing laws) in hunting and fishing funding. Is it annoying we have to wait so long with such bad odds....yes.... But if this extra revenue helps keep politics out of...
Hey Mallard, also, "special junior/mentor hunts": While they do have some opportunity I think they should have even more, especially for bull elk, rifle, rut...
Or....how about everyone has the same chance every year. No one is "entitled" to a controlled hunt. Not even once in their life. Hate to tell ya that life isn't fair.
There are only a hand full of states that matter for the presidential race in 2020. The rest are already decided. SC, PA, MN, MI, FL, CO, FL, OH, and maybe AZ.
It's been happening for at least two decades now. The odds are tougher every year. Still completely opposed to a point system as children that have not started hunting yet are at a disadvantage on day 1. That reason alone should be the end of any discussion of a point system in my opinion.
Also, I have a theory about how to make drawing odds more manageable for residents at least. Every unit in the state should have a rut rifle hunt (5 tags) for both deer and elk (if they don’t have one already). I would think this would spread out the applicant pool significantly. Am I missing...
I never said that I didn’t believe your conspiracy theory (I actually do but I think it is first time applicants not women and children). My child entered the draw for the first time this year and did not draw. On the contrary, I drew my first 44 deer tag yesterday!
My wife drew the second or third hardest to draw elk tag in the state her first year applying and then did it again on a 10% draw odds two years later. For some it happens, for others it doesn't and that is ok when there are plenty of OTC tags.
There is no need for a point system in Idaho. Everyone has the same chance every single year. The point systems in other states should be abolished and those folks should receive refunds depending on how many points they have accumulated. It is ridiculous.

I was up there ten days ago Antelope hunting and I saw lots of Washington and California plates (presumably archery elk hunting).
>Are they still there?
We've been hunting out Forsyth for the last 10 years and have never heard of them.
We have used other butchers in the area in the past but the last five years we have used Backwoods Wildgame Processing. They are the best in the area IMO.
Yep. The bedding area is about 600 yards away except for the day when a dozen cows/calfs decided to bed down right in front of the camera for 8 hours (that took up about 250 pictures!).Caught that same lone wolf a couple of different times.
