Just got back from the first 3 day stretch of my father's elk hunt. Only bull we found was a small 4 point raghorn. It was moving and was 300 yards and he missed. Not surprised as it was a tough shot and all happened so quickly. my father is not picky as that would have been the only elk he has ever shot. Seen several other groups of cows but having a tough time locating bulls. Only time we ever saw any elk was right at first light. They all seem to disappear into the thick timber very very early. We never once saw any elk in the evening. Is this possibly cuz of the bright sunny weather with highs in the 60s? Or maybe because of the the crazy bright moon that is out way before the sun even goes down? We are headed out again for another 3 days Wednesday evening. If anybody has any tips. We have been hunting around 6-7000 feet and by what I have been told by others I am surprised we have not seen more animals.
