    therapy

I was on my way to the woodstove on Sunday when my reloading bench caught my eye. I stopped to clean up some brass and ended up sizing, trimming and reloading 140 rounds of ammunition, six different loads for 4 rifles. Emerged from the basement several hours later feeling pretty good about...

    so you wanna hunt caribou?

My friend killed this bou on the second to last day of the season. A major storm was just blowing in as you can see from the photo. It took three of us 71/2 hours to pack this bad boy to camp. Worst night of my life. We almost didn't make it.

    summer jobs

About six years ago I fell arse backwards into a job with British Columbia Fisheries. I worked whatever hours I could get and it turned into a pretty cool opportunity. I get to travel all over the province stocking lakes from truck and helicopter. How many guys get to do something that they...

    tent question

I am for sure packing in for Stone sheep in August. There will probably be 3 of us in the group. In the past when we have 3 hunters we've used a 3-man tent. This year I'm thinking of taking 2 two man tents. This way there is a place to store our gear when we get bad weather(with the single guy...

    need help

A friend of mine just bought a European made 30x68 mauser. It came with about 100 rounds of hand loaded ammunition of different types. All of them shoot quite well but some show signs of really excessive pressure. So much in fact that with a few I had to punch the brass out of the chamber after...

    coyote rifle

Thinking about a new rifle for coyotes. I want something different than the usuals though. Perhaps a .240 Weatherby magnum? Or a 220 swift? Thoughts? Suggestions?

    Any grand slammers?

Does anyone here have their grand slam? I like to think of myself as a quarter slammer. I have a neighbor who has his BC slam and therefore 3/4 north american slam. He just can't seem to draw for a desert sheep. He also spends a bit of time in some of those asian countries with names I can't...

    double rifle

Who makes them? What calibers are they available in? The only ones I've actually seen anywhere are Holland&Holland and they're a little out of my price range.

    What to do?

Either new Swarovski 10x42 EL's and a backpack hunt or cheaper bino's and a fly in. Which should I choose?

    CB

Are you coming to BC for Stone's in 2004 or 2005? I can't remember. I know you were talking about going with Gundahoo River Outfitters. I've been talking with a couple guys and we're probably going into that area early in August ourselves. It's a bit of a grunt but I think we'll take the extra...

    loads for 30-06

Wondering if anyone has favorite loads for a 30-06? I have never reloaded this round before but have friends who want me to do so for them.

    what's the deal?

Why is it that we as hunters are always looking for a little better rifle? Sure some of the new magnums and ultra magnums offer somewhat better ballistics. Isn't it a fact though that there have been adequate and indeed superior loads around for years?(Personally I think the Weatherby 340 magnum...

    results in on .338 loads

To be honest, less than impressive. I hit a bull moose solidly 3 times and he still managed to run about 100 yards and drop dead in the middle of a lake. My dad shot a moose with my 7mm mag and anchored it with one shot.(160 sierra btsp) To add insult to injury, a grizzly made off with about...

    new/old .338

I just got my remington model 700 .338 win mag back from the gunsmith. I had him shorten the barrel, turn it down and nickel the barrel and action. I also had him mount it on a custom made(LH)synthetic stock. The scoped rifle weighs in just over six pounds. It's a really fine mountain rifle...

    Leavin' on a float plane

Had to put my fly in hunt on hold on account of the fires and the 11 days of no power water and phone. I'm back on track however, and flying out only a week later than originally scheduled. Moose Caribou and goat here I come.

    Booked and ready

I've booked the floatplane and the time off work. We fly out on Sept. 30 for Moose, Caribou, Sheep, Goat and hopefully Grizzly if I can draw a tag. Gonna pack the fishing gear too so we can haul in a few honkin' lake trout for dinner. Only 5 1/2 months to go, I better start packing my gear.

    weigh in time MM fatties

Okay boys it's been nearly 2 weeks since the official start of the fat guys fitness quest. Who has been doing their workouts and eating right? My diet is slowly improving and I've been running my butt off reffing basketball. 20 games in the last 8 days. Crappy ball but good exercise. I haven't...

    tub of guts

I weighed myself at the doctor's office the other day.I won't say how much but 236 is a lot of pounds to be packing. Are any of you guys working out in preparation for sheep season? I could use a little motivation.

    new pack

I just bought a new pack for sheep hunting. It's a Jansport Nepali external frame. I got a smokin' deal so I couldn't help myself. I'm wondering if anyone has used this pack and has any feedback.

    freeze dried food

What's the best freeze dried meal to take on a backpack hunt? My favorite is the Alpineaire shrimp alfredo. Least favorite is Mountain House ranch omelette.

    2003 hunts

Well it's the new year, fess up you guys, who has their sheep hunts planned for the upcoming season? I've been planning mine on the sly so my wife doesn't get too worked up. I usually give her the heads up about the end of may if I'm going for the August 1 opener.

    A sheep hunter is born

At 8:37 on Dec.5,2002 Erik David Giesbrecht was born in Kamloops British Columbia. He is my first son. It was a difficult birth due to the fact the boy was wearing a Kifaru pack and Meindl boots, but I shouted "ram on the skyline!" and out he popped.

    pack weights

I was reading another thread and some young man stated that he carries an 80 pound pack when backpack hunting. Now I'm not saying that it is untrue but I do think it's unlikely. I've carried packs in excess of 80 Lbs. but only after bagging a critter. The biggest pack I ever hauled was 113 Lbs...
