Been a few years since I have had to work this hard, only seen a little buck and 4 does through 5 days of hunting. Finally on the 6th morning I jumped a true monster at 50 yards. He quartered back towards me and I missed him at 30 yards as he ran by through the open timber. Couldn't believe it, had to go over his tracks twice to make sure. Talk about a crazy range of emotions, he was the type of muley that most of us hunt a lifetime for and never see.
I was so pissed at my self I decided to completely change areas so I headed to the other side of the area I was hunting (couple miles and nearly 2k in total climbing). I got to where I wanted to be and was going to sit till dark.
I had great expectations for this spot from the beginning but it hadn't came through yet. As the sun hit the horizon, I figured my time was about to come to an end again. I started getting my pack together when I heard a deer running. This old boy pops out and attempts to trot by at 30 yards with no clue I was there. First shot would have been enough but if an animal is still on his feet then I keep shooting. He took 3 shots to the engine room before tipping over.
He is a great consolation muley, just wish he could have grown another year with my tag having being punched on the 1st buck

There are many things that would be nice to wish for or say but then I would be just like him.
