30A antelope

congrats to your buddy - he is going antelope hunting!! not to bring him down at all from getting a tag but the bucks in this unit do not have the genetics to grow big horns. A friend of mine had this tag 4 years ago. He did a lot of scouting and ended up taking what he thought was the biggest buck he had seen. took it opening morning at first light. his hunt was over in about 15 minutes. I think the horns were about 13.5 inches long. it is my understanding these antelope were transplanted from TX way back when and they just don't have the horn genetics that most antelope in AZ have.

there is quite a bit of private property and your friend will need to spend some time with the unit manager getting names and numbers and then following up on his own about access. some are nice and allow access, some are not and do not, some have friends they will let on first and then others later. kind of a crap shoot.

if it rains, the roads down there can get slick, muddy and boggy.

good luck to your friend! make sure to share a pic of his results.

Thx for the info. He drew with only 4 bonus points so he's just happy to have a tag. I haven't ever heard of any big bucks coming out of 30a but thought i would toss the question out there.
