Advice on canon teleconvertor

That lens is a f4 lens I believe.

With the 2X you will end up with f8 being your low end on aperature.

That may be a factor in choosing between the 1.4 and the 2.0

You will also loose your auto focus if I am not mistaken.

The II only comes in an F2.8! Congrats on that lens! It's the one I'm scrounging to try to get.

Which cam? The APS-C cams (7D, T2i, T3i, 60D) already give a 1.6x tele effect. I have an old Nikkor AI-s 600mm ED F5.6 on a T3i. It's incredible and would be close to your new lens with the 2x converter. F5.6 is plenty good for all but dawn and dusk. Especially with the new II lens.

I've found that you can never have enough focal length. Even with a 600mm and the 1.6x crop factor I need to be within 200 yards to get an elk full frame. For deer I have to be within 150 yards. Anyway you work it you're in their relm at that point and you have to work them carefully.

Here's what I get with the 600 at about 400 yards. This is 1920px out of a frame that is 5184px wide. As you can see it works incredibly for the web, but you need to be alot closer to make this work if you want him full frame.

I'll say it again you can never have enough focal length :)

Cheers,
Pete

You will probably get sharper results with the 1.4x TC III as opposed to the 2x TC III

I thought that Canon was working on a 200-400 with a built-in TC, but the quake in Japan may have put a hold on that.
