Well, since I decided I was going to try and be more active on this forum and not a lurker I thought I would recap our archery elk and deer hunt. Due to using my vacation time on my fathers elk hunt later this month I was only able to hunt Saturdays this year. One of my brothers moved back to Idaho this year and has not hunted in 5 or so years so I was excited to get out with him and hopefully get him his first archery animal. I have a late cow tag this year so I was mostly along for the experience and spend some time with my brother. He bought an elk tag and I had a deer tag in my pocket. We hunted every Saturday in Sept. except one. In those 4 trips we took we logged almost 50 miles on the boots. We never did get into any elk and saw only a few does. I had a chance to shoot a doe one morning but it was still early in the season, she was small, and I was not willing to settle for a doe since I will have another opportunity in Oct. and November to fill that tag. I am not sure if we are just bad hunters, unlucky, or just the hunting has been that rough this year but it sure wasn't for a lack of trying with the limited amount of time we had. All in all we had a good time, made some good memories and learned a lot about the areas we hunted. We did finally on the last hour or so on Saturday we did get a bit of a reward for our hard work. Found a dead head buried in the mud by a creek bottom with the ivorys still intact. Something kinda neat to remember our season by. Now to focus on and get ready for the old mans rifle bull hunt. Haven't quite figured out how to upload photos that show up in the post yet so I will try and respond with some pics we took.
