Area 74

My dad and I have been talking of putting in for deer tags in area 74 or possibly other near by areas. Its been 15-20 years since we have been to durango and are worried about the private property. Is it going to be a problem for us in that area? We would rather put in for a different area if private ground is gonna be between us and the deer. If anyone has a link to a map that shows private versus public that would be perfect! I tried looking for help on colorado's website but no luck. Thanks for the help if any!

Private property will not be a problem in unit 74 unless you hunt 3rd or 4th season.

Just curious why you say only for 3rd or 4th season? Because of the weather and it pushing deer down low to the private?

If thats the case and the weather gets bad enough early it may be worth looking into Units 73 or 71. Just a thought.

That would be somewhat true, but 73 would have even more private, 71 less so but requires 6 points to draw. If you click on the link given in the first reply and enter 74, you can see private vs public. 74 has a bunch more public. That said, the 4th season tag can generally be had for 0 points. There is probably a reason for that.
