I went to the DWR today to pick up a cross bow and season extension permit for my brother that is bound to a wheel chair. I was told that the Limited Entry archery elk hunt is not eligible for season extension dates(this was a different story than what we received before we put him in for the tag). I was told he would be able to hunt starting August 12, which is 5 days before the rest of the public.
We had planned on sitting on a few water holes somewhat close to the roads. These water holes have good action up until the general season starts. Once they start to sense pressure they are gone.
Some may wonder why we put him in for an archery tag. We did this because his health has been poor for the last few years and we thought this may be his last chance for a decent hunt. That being said, I'm not sure turning his tag in makes sense at this point.
If any of you have any suggestions please let me know. Does anyone know of private property on the unit with somewhat reasonable trespass fee's? Does anyone know of any good water holes that are somewhat close to the roads. We can get him into a side by side but not a 4 wheeler. We have lined up a special chair to wheel him down the trails.
As you can imagine my brother has been so excited for the last several months. He saved his money to buy a cross bow and ground blind.
Some of you guys have reached out in the past to help. We really appreciate it.
