What a hunt of a life time! ashame I came home after twelve days in the woods with tag soup. A ton of elk but in my experience or lack of in the thick dark timber i was chasing bugles for the first 4 days.I thought the elk would be more active with the call like in arizona and nevada.I talkied to some local that said it was a wierd year and that the bulls are usually screaming more. As the only non rez it was difficult I couldnt figure out how to hunt them when you cant out run them cant call them and coulnt glass them. Nothing like nevada were you can glass the timber is thick .I know i was in the right area I could locate the bull with a bugle and they would usualy respond about 20 min before dark so i would get in the canyon the next morning were i had last heard the bulls and try to cut them off before the hit the timber to bed butnot a peep as the son would come up i would hit the bugle i might get one to awnser back but the next time i heard him it was like they would be further away I would try to stalk on them through the dead fall and think trees but like I said the only way to lacate them was bugle and that would make push there cows the oppisate direction . I would have thought some satilite bulls would come running in at least but nothing. How do you hunt the thick timber when they dont talk ? without trail camras! All in all lot of fun Thank to everyone who helped
