I usually go in the kayak but got invited to go on the big deluxe cabin cruiser yesterday. Either way the fishing has been good. I now have 10 or 12 fish vacuum sealed in the freezer. I hate California but I just can't leave.

I thought you normally throw the babies back, eel?

Nice fish eel, neighbor caught forty pounder a couple weeks ago. How about the perch? knocked the hell out of them last week. Don't pay and attention to Wiz, he's just jealous were retired.....RAS

That is a very good Picture. Even with no sunlight it shows the Hwy Light poles.

What Make & Model is your Reel and Rod .. ?

I have remained a user of Open Face Reels due to my lack of Casting Skills, with a Closed Reel.

You look full of Life Eel and enjoying yourself. If California knew how much fun you are having, they would Tax you under an amusement Taxation.

Jagerdad :)

LAST EDITED ON Jul-24-18 AT 06:05PM (MST)[p]Wisz, no! Throw the big females back. :D. The best eating are the ones 22" to 30". I heard of a 18 pounder caught but that's about it. Even that is rare here.

Jager that's a Shimano rod (cheap) and the reel is an Avet SX5 3:1(not cheap).

Thanks!

ras1954, I haven't been perch fishing lately. I even bought a few Lucky Craft lures. I'm tempted to try them on halibut. They nail the Red tails!

Retired, Bob?? Shoot....you look far too young to be retired! I'll work til the day I die. My job is too gratifying to retire. Send me some referrals and I'll pay your AARP dues. :)

>Hey Eel, would you mind telling
>me where the cabin is
>on that cruiser?

Well, I might have exaggerated a bit on the full cabin cruiser. Compared to the kayak it felt bigger than it is, I guess. Plus it has a motor and everything. :)

dz, those are both nice fish. We catch Pacific halibut here too but in the ocean only.

Eel, The Man who taught me Trapping (now not legal) became my best friend. I helped raise his twin son's with my son.

His twins became Marines. One was lost in Afghanistan.

This friend moved to Alaska. He caught Lings from his Kayak larger than the Kayak and it towed him for hours. Here is one such catch once help arrived.

OK... I Screwed Up. I meant to Type: "Halibut" ... Lings were on my mind because my Wife had given me Wild Salmon then asked on the Phone ( While I was entering a typed post in MM'eys ) if she may give me Cod for Dinner. Yes: TMI ... ie: To Much Information.

Thank you Homer.

My Friend is also featured in Alaska's News (won't say where) about Teddy Bears and Stuffed Animals at the entrance to, a Transfer Station ( DUMP ).

ELK'ey may know many folks in many Places but I fail to keep in contact with all such folks.

Again, Thank You REHL for your comment under my post "I'm OK". Only 10 folks posted something .. Awe, I am so saddened by such :-(

I am sad but glad 2lumpy may not read this Post. He said... Keep things brief. Herein, I failed.... as usual. Guess my Blood Suger is OK now, at this hour.

You're not supposed to eat hotdogs or drink out of the garden hose or ride around in the bed of a pickup either. But we all did and I wouldn't trade it for anything...

I've never been to cali and didn't think I was missing much but eels pics are making me change my mind a little....

It's just the opposite up in northern California. It might have something to do with the difference in ocean temperatures. People swim in the ocean in southern CA. Our average temp here is between 48 and 52 degrees.

Who is the guy in the pic? Your grandson?

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. "

While you guys are so busy giving each other a hard time, I think I'll quietly send my mailing address to Mr. Eel and see if a package of "baby" halibut fillets shows up! Yum!

I'm calling BS, Kilbuc. They don't have fresh salmon in the "Heartland of Wyoming" :)

So, just for the halibut, we went again yesterday despite the lousy minus tide. I missed the coveted 30 incher by 1/4" I guess we'll have to try again.

Oh, I forgot about land locked sockeye salmon. My bad.

LOL Eel, Just got back from the Nush River Camp in Alaska a couple weeks ago. Good times.

from the "Heartland of Wyoming"

So Eel, what you are saying is that you hate California, but yet you stay....

wait for it.....

wait for it...

wait for it...

little bit longer....

almost there....

wait for it......

just for the halibut (hell of it)?

35 posts in and I still can't believe no one said it.

Low hanging fruit guys!

Come on - we can do better that this.

Haha! yep! Just for the halibut. Seriously though it's a little discouraging to put on thermals, a shirt, a sweatshirt, and a coat to fish in August. If it wasn't for the thermos of hot coffee I wouldn't make it. The coldest winter I ever experienced was a summer in Eureka.

I'd take a nice cool day right now for sure. 94 degrees with 44% humidity and high pressure, feels like 101. Miserable.
