I have long opposed another law or season for shed hunting, but I think UT has gone too far. I live in So. UT and there have been guys out hiking/driving the hills for 3 or 4 weeks! Most of these guys are every bit as passionate about hunting and deer quality as the next, they just don't understand the accumulative effects of all the passionate hunter out there. This includes, but is not limited to, shed hunters, bird hunters, rock hunters, bow hunter, spike hunters, bull hunters, trophy hunters, muzzleloader hunters, riffle hunters, arrowhead hunters, bounty hunters; you get the point! Some of each of these groups make good choices, and just as many make bad choices! Point is this is all a function of numbers and decisions (good or bad).
It is unfortunate that we have reached a capacity for shed hunting (and other activities in winter range). It's too bad that we as hunters (some) have lost sight of fun and obsession. It is also unfortunate that someone has the job/responsibility of setting parameters that protect the wildlife, but I think it is time.
My 2 cents.
