Labor day 2008, I found a Remington Model 700, .270 with a Leopold scope, Still clear. My friends told me to just keep it, But I decided to take the high road and turn it in to the local police. They told me if nobody claimed it I could have it back after 90 days.
6 months later I finally had it back. With the help of a friend I was able to restore it. The barrel had too much rust on the inside, so I replaced it with a stainless steel fluted barrel, I sent the bolt off to have it fluted also. I had the action nikel plated, I put on a silver leopold scope, I wanted to keep it somewhat similar to the origional gun, just different color. I used the old scope on my other rifle and got a nice elk with it last year. I refinished the stock, glass bedded it in the process. Tons of other small things to personalize it. I was able to keep the project under $450. My friend not only taught me a little about being a gunsmith, he did it all for the cost of parts. I wish I had taken more pictures of the process, but here are the before and after. Everything is origional but barrel, scope, and recoil pad.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-10 AT 12:09PM (MST)[p]Bobby, I'm an old wood worker and if you really wanted to do a good job on that you would have just rubbed some dirt on it you old sissy!

Really I just want to tell you thanks for the help through the PM and that your rifle looks great.

I haven't rifle hunted for 40 years, but when I did I used a Reminton Model 760. I was left handed and so I bought their pump 270. I killed a few deer and some elk with it and then retired it to my bow.

Anyway good job, I am glad to see you got a good rifle out of it. Thanks again for the help.

Have a good one. BB

How does it shoot??

Nice to see good things happening to good people.

First time out I was able to hold a group of 5, all touching at 100 yards, I am going to experiment with a few different loads now, its a blast to shoot.

Rub some dirt on it, ya sissy!

Cool find. If you are holding that pattern at 100 yards why would you experiment? just curious.

There is a lot of time before the hunt, I want to shoot it as much as possible, The more excuses the better.

Rub some dirt on it, ya sissy!
