I really should take the Warden on an ocean fishing trip for our 42nd anniversary, in August. I need the names of some good outfits or charters from Shelter Cove north.

Salmon or halibut.

and thank you!

NICK...go to www.google.com and type in
charter boats in ft. bragg, ca
We used that 2nd one on the pop up list about 5 years ago and he was good then.

Thanks, Brian! We have fished out of Ft. Bragg several times and on the Patty C the last two.
We want to get farther north, with the hope of being able to get into some decent halibut grounds.

YOUR TIMING IS PERFECT, THE LONG LOST SALMON ARE KICKIN BUTT THE LAST FEW DAYS AT THE COVE. 18 to 24 lbs average. I dont know of anybody that targets the pacific flatties out of there but they sure do out of Eureka. Ive heard the bottum fish are still spotty but you might check their closure date? Maybe in August. GOOD LUCK BH1

Nick, I don't know any of these personally, but here are a couple leads.

Another one is Celtic Charter Service. Captain Phil Green. He is the oldest around Eureka, and very experienced. Reservations (707)442-7115. A friend of my recommended him.

It is my understanding that the salmon bite has been slow lately out of Eureka. I heard of good halibut fishing though.

Hey Buck, Eel!
Thanks a bunch! This plan just might come together!
Of course I still have to get the Warden to agree!:)

Hey NickW,

I'm going bottom fishing and moochin for salmon with Capt. Phil out of Eureka on August 12th!

He has a 6 person boat... we go out of Eureka and head south to where the Eel hits the ocean. Big Lings and Rockfish.. If we limit out early we can mooch for Salmon.

I'll post pics and results for ya after we go.
as long as your taking your wife and not a CA Warden??

Of course if I go on a fire I may miss out & that would suck!

Schmalie! We've lived in three different states and she's still the "Warden".
As she has reminded me on many an occasion, She ain't a "game" warden, but more like a "Prison" warden.
As in if I don't mind my P's & Q's, I won't gt any "yard" time, (hunting, fishing, poker, etc.).
The woman is my best friend and I love her dearly!.....but being the azz that I am, I always keep her on her toes, with my antics. :)

Nick,

I regularly fish the waters you are interested in. Here is a link to the local Humboldt tuna fishing club. They have links to the local guides, all are good. Also have the forum with tips and up to date info on how the local waters are fishing. Ole Eel's suggestions were all spot on too.

On a side note the halibut fishing has been off the hook the last couple days.
