I just received an email from a buddy of my mine who passed this info on to me. Thought I would post it on the site to get it out to all of us who are in support of WY and their managment plan for wolves. Lets flood the Governers office with calls and let them know they are doing a great job!

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, the office of Wyoming Governor Freudenthal was lambasted by phone calls ripping his leadership on management of wolves as predators in his state. His office indicated they had received 600 calls last week.

Defenders of Wildlife used their web site to direct callers to harass the Governor?s office directly. Yesterday we heard from some of our members who suggested we contact the Governor?s office and thank him for his efforts to check the current wolf population. We suggest you do that very thing and demonstrate that Defenders of Wildlife and their ilk do not represent the majority of citizens interested in wildlife.

Here is the contact information for you to use in providing some follow-up. http://governor.wy.gov/contact-dave/default.html (you can email him from this link)

Please take the time to take action on this issue. I spoke with the Governor's office today and calls are about 50/50 as of today. A lot of people need to be sending in comments and/or calling the Governor's office. It would be nice if other states would follow suit as many if not all the calls in opposition are coming from outside the state. It would be great if other sportsmen would take the time to let Wyoming's Governor know that there is also support for his actions from those of you which no longer live in Wyoming but relish your hunting experience just the same.

Special Thanks to Nate Helm, Executive Director ID SFW, and Fritz Meyers, Member Fremont County SFW, for your efforts in getting a response started to balance and hopefully overwhelm those that are trying to derail the progress which has been made with the delisting of wolves in the Rocky Mountain Region.

As a resident of WA (an up and coming "official" wolf state), I sent him an e-mail congratulating him on setting the standard for other states to follow. Here's to hoping that our Governor has the spine to follow suit, since I no she doesn't the balls. Scott

If the Defenders of Wildlife can send 600 anti calls to the WY Governor I am confindent we can double that number so long as we take a little initiative and make teh call!

I hate to bring it up again folks, but SFW is leading the charge to resolve this wolf problem for sportsman.

I know lots of you have opinions on the issue about SFW, but they are leading the way in this fight. I would hope you would support SFW or take some initiative to speak on your own behalf.

Too bad you did. I say quit giving credit where credit isn't due. Numerous other groups have been fighting this fight longer than before SFW set foot in Wyoming. About a year ago SFW was asking the State to throw in the towel and negotiate with the Fed's. Gov Dave said pound sand, we're pressing forward concerning our ongoing litigation. A few weeks later, the USFWS caved and agreed to talk. As suggested, I just took the initiative and spoke on my own behalf. Kudo's to Dave and his administration for fighting the good fight...

TripleBB,

I guess this statement is all bullshit? Sounds like you have it all figured out....

gotthefever,

Thanks for doing your part. I will not get in the way of your efforts. I was only hoping to help, but like always someone has something to say and knows how to do it better.

I support Wyomings plan, and I called. Where are bucksforbrains and idahoelkinstructor and all the other anti wolf guys that expound on their dislike for the critters? mtmuley

I got this email a few days ago and the call has already been placed.

Good on ya mtmule! I think we are getting threw to ya!

Excuse me, I need to make a call.

LAST EDITED ON May-10-08 AT 08:35AM (MST)[p]First off I would like to thank SFW for assisting in this matter. I am not a big fan of SFW at all but I have recently joined the organization because of their recent efforts concerning wolves.

But KTC, I take personal offense to the remark "SFW is leading the charge to resolve this wolf problem for sportsman." There have been ground root efforts against wolves here in Wyoming well before SFW had anything to do with wolves in our state. Statements like this make it sound like Wyoming would not be anywhere with wolf management without the efforts of SFW which is absolutley untrue. SFW's support is only a small but neccessary peice of the puzzle when it comes to wolf management in Wyoming.

I will give credit where credit is due and I will give credit to SFW for recent events. But the true leaders of wolf management in Wyoming are the Wyoming Game and Fish and the USFWS for completing sound research that supports the decisions made by our politicians concerning Wyoming's wolf policy. The citizens of Wyoming are also deserving of some recognition for voting for politicians that will make the right decisions. I also would recognize every single person no matter where they are from that will offer support to our Wyoming's wolf policy. This is where SFW is benificial by being able to spread the word to people beyond our borders.

Here is a link to a recent story in the Casper Star concerning this issue.

wyosheds,

I spoke out of turn without knowing the full story...still don't.

I know they have been fighting hard recently so I guess my comment was from recently going forward. This I do know.

Done. Right now the decision is in the judges hands, and will be for quite some time as more law suits are filed. But it will be interesting to see if Wyoming sticks to its guns or caves in to settle the matter once and for all. A long hard battle ahead, IMO

Fellow Sportsmen,

calling the Gov. is important to know that he has a lot of support. thanks for doing it.

All sportsmen coming together on this issue is the most imporatnt issue facting hunters in the west for the next 20 years.

SFW played a significant role in getting wolves delisted, and Wyoming's plan accepted and approved. i will write a book about it one day. There are some true Wyomnig sportsmen heros, whose story is not known at this time. but it will be one day, after all the dust is settled.

SFW has also hired very talented attorneys, and SFW has filed for intervenor status in the current litigation, to assist the Feds and the states in court.

In particular, SFW hopes to make sure that game herds stay abundant, so that hunters can have sucessful hunts in each of our back yards.

If wolves are allowed to regulate the system, sportsmen will lookse up to 80% of our hunting opportunities.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Director Terry Cleveland already came out with a strong statement - when there was all this boycott Wyoming Propoaganda - and he said the Wolves are already taking 50% of the harvestable surplus of elk in Wyoming. That ought to scare the hell out of every hunter in north America to think what will happen if the anti hunters win in court, and there is NO wolf management, NOT even to protect livestock, that is part of the Anti argument. Killing wolves - some 700 wolves over the past few years, to protect livestock - is stopping the genetic connectivity of YNP and the Idaho wolves. Does the ESA really require genetic connectivity below Yellowstone and Central Idaho - that is what a judge will in part be deciding.

If the bad guys win,

then even the supper hunters, who think we are all lazy, they are superior and go in farther, better callers, tougher, etc, will be out of the hunting game. Elk tags for hunters will become so scarce, you won't be able to get a tag. just look already at the reduction in Moose tags around Jackson and Cody.

Another effect, is that additional fees and licesnes are being charged to cover for wolf managment costs, and to make up for decreasing elk licenses.

and the final effect, is if wolves are allowed to grow exponentially, if tags are not regulated, if license fees don't grow up dramatically, then sucess rates for hunters drop drastically.

The Judge has set a hearing date of May 29 in Federal court. The first critical part of this long fight is to make sure the judge has enough evidence that he will NOT grant the injunction and stop wolf management until the litigation is over - probably a two to three year court battle with appeals.

SCI and the NRA are the other two sportsmen groups who have filed to participate in the court fight.

So, MM Faithful, it is important that every hunter lets their Governor and elected leaders know we suppor them, and ask them to put their A legal team on the litigation fight - the states of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana have all joined in the the Feds. in the Montana court room fight.

Will keep you all posted if you want, and thanks for the support.

Eel,

how long the states and the feds stay in the fight to keep wolves delisted, is directly proportional to the desire in both email campaigns, political support and money to fight the litigation.

Tim McGraw has an old song, How bad do you want it ? I hope the sportsmen will rally on this one.

Don

Thanks for the link. Gonna forward to all my contacts and encourage them to do what I did, Thank the governor for acting swiftly and to please stay the course.

Thanks for the info from all of you. wyosheds, BB, dk.

My point is NOW is the time to act. Make the call, support SFW, support SCI, support the NRA. Lots of people care. Belong to a group or speak on your own behalf.

Although contacting Gov Dave in support of Wyoming's wolf policy is greatly apprciated, it is only a small step towards being successfull in our campaign. Here are a few other places to contact in regards to getting our voices herd in regards to wolf management. Many of these places are being used by the Pro Wolf folks to promote boycotts, and feed misinformation to the American public.

So please write letter and make calls and send emails that detail your opinions and concernes of an unregulated wolf population and please also offer support of Wyoming's management plans to all the government officials and agencies that I am listing. But please do so in a respectful and peaceful manner.

One other thing please share facts will all the agencies that I have listed, and even send them the links that I am providing to support the facts, especially news organizations that are using misinformation by Pro Wolf organiztions to force their view on the American Public.

Fact: 4 of the 8 major elks herds in Wyoming surrounding Yellowstone national park are on the brink of not supporting hunting opportunities and possibly even supporting a population as a whole.
http://gf.state.wy.us/downloads/pdf/FinalElkCCRatios3-23-07.pdf

Fact: USFWS last year alone killed 63 wolves in Wyoming for livestock depredation and the number of wolves killed has increased annually by 30%. Almost all of the wolves killed were in Wyoming's designated Predator zone under our current management plan.
Fact: Over half of studied elk wolf kills in Wyoming and Yellowstone in 2007 were mature bulls, not the sick and weak.
http://www.fws.gov/mountain-prairie... 2007 Annual Final Report received 3-8-08.pdf

Fact: Since reintroduction the USFWS has killed 724 wolves in the three state reintroduction areas at the end of 2007. They also used methods such as airial gunning, snowmachines, and trapping, which is not allowed in Wyoming except for the Predator area of the state.

http://gf.state.wy.us/downloads/pdf/WolfFinal2007WyomingGrayWolfManagementPlan.pdf

Fact: 90% of the State of Wyoming is classified as a "Predator" area but only 10% of the states population of wolves live in this area.
Fact: The 90% of Wyoming that is considered Predator area was determined to not be considered as "Viable Wolf Habitat" and cannot support a wolf population without extreme livestock depredation.

I too support the Wyoming plan. I have been following this issue quite closely since our 2005 hunts that were day-and-night different from the previous several years - due to at least one pack moving into the area we've hunted. Because of the WY Wolf Mgt Plan, we are supporting Wyoming by once again spending $$ and time in WY, going fishing in 2 weeks, doing some trail riding with an outfitter in August, Bar-J Chuckwagon, son's elk hunt in October, crossing fingers to draw deer, moose next year, etc, etc.

Email or call? - which is more effective?

Wyosheds and dkpeay have pretty much laid it out for you. Hunting as we have known it in the wolf areas is in the balance, IMO. The pro wolf crowd are very organized and have an almost unlimited supply of money and legal resources at their disposal. We have to get involved and act now. Set your differences aside and join in with any organization that will help fight this cause.

I'm from California so I know how these people oporate. They take a little here and a little there. Originally it was put a few wolves into the wilderness in Idaho, and a few in Yellowstone. What could that hurt, right? Now they are calling for a minimum of 5000 wolves to keep the genetic strain strong. And trust me, they won't be happy with that either.

Thanks to the good people in Wyoming for drawing the line in the sand. Now we have to back it up!

WYO sheds,

I am not a computer guru, could you email the links listed above to [email protected], or tell me how to download them to my email from this site.

Some valuable information.

do the math on 5,000 wolves, that is 125,000 plus elk and deer a year. Say good bye to hunting, and that is their agenda.

Eel,

Somehow somewhere I had gotten the impression that you agreed with the wolfies. I am glad to be mistaken. You said that VERY well.

LAST EDITED ON May-12-08 AT 08:13AM (MST)[p]Fellow Sportsmen,

i just read about 100 pages of briefs filed by the USFWS from their attorneys, and 5 of the wolf recovery biologists including Mech and Bangs, and i will give strong credit to the Fed. Government.

They have made a strong case legally and biologically why wolves were delisted and why wolves should stay in management hands of the states.

WYO sheds, i got your email thanks so much.

if you could send it one more time, i need to capture it on my laptop as i am traveling.

[email protected]

thanks and will keep you all posted.

the hearing date is May 29 in Missoula, MT.
