High Country Mule Deer

I am CO. resident, I just returned from a hunt in Nevada where we Archery hunted in the high country. We(my buddy and I)packed in about 4 miles into the Ruby mountians on foot. Using spotting scopes and glassing from the high points on the mountian sides and peaks.
I would love to do this style of hunting here in my own state. What areas would I need to go scout to do this type of hunting? I am not asking for your favorite hunny holes, but just a starting point.

If I were looking for a starting point in Colorado I'd start with the big game brochure and look at units that have an early September rifle hunt (there are not allot of these units). These hunts are typically good for timberline and above so you'll know right off that some one felt like there was a hunt-able population of deer in high country in that unit/area. That said, some of these units and hunts are much better than others. They are all physically demanding (some much more so than others). Some are actually pretty marginal quality wise(one or two are almost a joke in my opinion).
Either way, that would give you a starting point for some research.

Not going to be much help on your Colorado question, but was curious as to how your Nevada hunt went. I have a muzzy tag for that area that starts in less than a month. I am planning on packing in for a week. Should be a good time. Good luck to you and your search for some high mountain muley hunts in your home state.

Hey Marshall...There were some very nice bucks there. Just keep the doe heads from camping and using camp fires in the bottom of the canyons that you are hunting and you will do great. Good luck

54, 55, 70, 74, 76 just to name a few. Opening google earth and you will see quite a few units.
