Ok guys, I know I don't post here a lot - but I have been a follower for many, many years (Love this site). Fact is, although I have spent a lot of time hunting all around the world - my heart still lies here at home in Colorado and the west, in pursuit of mule deer / elk / sheep, etc. I don't claim to have the kind of experience some of you do, but in making this post - I'll list my brief experience / accomplishments simply as a reference for my real point to this post.
1. Guide and/or outfitter, booking agent for 26 years.
2. Personally guided no less than 50 mule deer over 180"
3. Personally guided no less than 25 bulls over 350"
4. Personally guided no less than 40 whitetails over 160"
5. Guided numerous bighorns, and roughly a dozen mtn goat hunts
6. Have personally shot 9 bulls over 350"
7. Have personally shot 4 bucks over 190"
8. Have taken the Grand Slam of NA sheep 3 years ago (never entered it)
9. Only 4 species away from the N.A. 29 - and have been for a long time. A couple of them just don't interest me much at all!
10. Roughly 120+ species worldwide!
11. Roughly 60 hunts worldwide
12. One of only a handful of Americans to ever earn / hold a full PH license in Tanzania, East Africa (since 2010)
But....after all this I am thinking about bringing it all back home to what I, and a lot of you love most. Western - Big Game Hunting!
I currently host a tv show on the Sportsman Channel - "Trijicon's World of Sports Afield" (July - December airing), but my thought / idea is to start a new series, perhaps online. One where the story line is the following.
I'm 45 years old, single, no kids, never married (can't find one that's not bat-##### freakin crazy) and my only dependent is an 85lb chocolate lab (Grizzly Bear). So, I'm seriously thinking about buying a big RV, hooking up my truck, and traveling the western USA - just hunting / filming. But....with a twist! I am first off considering traveling to / living in several of the states that allow for a lifetime hunting license (which legally allows you to apply in said state as a resident for the rest of your life). A huge advantage for a guy like myself who can do it, and has a lot of bonus / preference points around the country.
Get several lifetime licenses - which I know of at least 3 states in the west that do so, and you are improving your draw odds tremendously. Then look at states like Nevada for example - where I now have 15 bonus points for deer / elk, and your odds of drawing as a resident - sky rocket. All the while, documenting the traveling, living, scouting and hunting adventures of myself and Grizzly Bear. I'm even considering Alaska, where a resident can hunt grizzly/brown bear, sheep, mtn goat, etc, without a guide at all.
So, without dragging this on any further - give me your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, etc? Don't worry guys - I am NOT sensitive at all! PLEASE be honest, tell me your thoughts, and tell me if you would watch / follow our adventures?
Thank you
