Hi Everybody:
This is Brent, the shooter of the non-typical. Thanks to Allen for getting the pics posted so quickly. I appreciate all the "congrats." To say the least, I am very stoked. More like a kid on Christmas. It was a great experience!
At the end of my trip, I felt honored to have hunted in the Kaibab. And, I have a new appreciation for the AZ residents. All of them were quality people with firm handshakes. I thought I might catch some negative action being that I'm a non-res and drew that insane tag in a year full of guber bullchit. I think the residents are getting hosed. I feel very grateful to have drawn. But, I'm sensitive to what's happened.
I hired a guide with mixed emotions. I like to hunt hard myself and was uncomfortable thinking that I would just be following a guide through the mountains. But, I knew I wouldn't have time to scout with a busy schedule, and I wanted to do the tag justice. Well, I now feel that my decision was an absolute blessing. Not because I shot a bruiser, because I came home with a wealth of knowledge. And, my incredible guide, Mark Boulanger, was a perfect match for me. He made it feel like a team effort. However, Mark did the scouting. Mark glassed up that buck. He should be proud. I was just the lucky guy that got to pull the trigger.
I know Allen has done a fine job pimping Duwane Adams. I read his posts. Well, I now know what drives BuraNut nutty. I drank the Koolaid too. Not only is Duwane a phenomenal guide, he's an outstandingly cool person. And, his books are awesome. I have his Kaibab book and his Coues book. That's probably why his name popped up in my head when I drew that tag. If you haven't bought his books yet, they'd make a great Christmas gift for yourself.
Sorry for the exhausting post. I'm just really jacked.
Also, congrats to Dana Yount for drilling an incredibly awesome buck. I was there when he caped the head and scored it. We were trippin' out when the score added up to 220, unofficially. I hope you guys get to see the photos of that buck.
Okay, back out to the garage to check on the rack again. Good hunting to you all.
Brent
