Pretty spot, but no elk around this one up Jerry Creek in Montana.
Interestingly I was washing my hands in the middle of the day behind the trailer when a 3 point mule deer buck came running down the creek bed and passed me at about 5 feet. He saw me and just kept stumbling and running by as we watched him go for a few hundred yards until he went out of sight. From there we could still hear him splashing and crashing down the river.
In 40 years of hunting I've never seen or heard of anything like it. He wasn't shot or even looked injured in any way. All I can think is he had wolves or cougar on his tail and was staying in the creek so they couldn't track him.
Anyone else ever had such a thing happen? Especially right in your camp spot.

I once wounded a nice buck that ran straight down the mountain, through another hunters camp and into a river. The other hunter went down to the river and finished him off and then tagged him. I've heard wounded bucks often go to water.
?Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. "

Arizona Elk Camp for the last two weeks. Pretty comfortable and right in the middle of a glory hole. Heard them bugling all night long, and one night a bull walked right down the road outside my tent!!!
