Well here is my Arizona Rifle deer I got this year. He isn't your typical big buck but I am happy with him.
I had cut some big tracks in the area the day before and after putting in a few miles of hiking and glassing I could never turn him up, but I did notice any time I ventured to far away from the area I quit cutting his tracks. so I knew him and his buddy had to be in the area some where.
I decided to stay the night in the area and sleep in my truck so I would have a good start first thing in the morning as my camp was on the other side of the mountain. The next morning after hiking 8 more miles I still hadn't turned up a deer but was still cutting the 2 big set of tracks. I rested up for a bit till around 2pm and decided to see if I could continue to narrow down their area of operation as every time I ventured to far away I quit seeing there track.
Finally got into an area that I was seeing what seemed to be fresher track and about 3pm I glassed him up 900 yards away feeding under a giant sand stone bluff. Now all day I had been imagining the giant rack that was on the buck leaving the big tracks. So I was a bit surprised and disappointed when I put the glass on him and found a giant 2 point.
But the more I looked at him the more I liked him, and my goal for this hunt was to kill a mature buck with some mass and eye appeal. I decided to close the distance and get a better look at him.
I was able to get to the 500 yard mark pretty easy and after watching him for a few more minutes I decided he was the buck for me the big brow tines and giant bases and over all uniqueness of him was just too cool.
I set up my BogPod and dialed my scope in for 500 yards and cut her loose. first shot was a bit back in the liver, but the second was a good shot through the boiler room, he ran about 20 yards and laid down and I put one more in him just to finish him off.
He is just a 2x2, 20" wide and 22" tall with over 8 inch bases. Not exactly what I had in mind of killing but he is a big old troll buck with character and I am happy with him. He was an old buck as his teeth were about to gum line on the bottoms.
