Heres the bull my girlfriend got last night. Its her very first animal other than a dove she got a month ago. I found this bull near the end of archery season this year but could not get a shot on him. I decided to take my girlfriend in there the 1st rifle season to see if we could get him. After finding him the morning of the second day but not being able to seal the deal we came back that evening. After an hour of glassing I spotted him in some thick timber about a half mile away.
An hour and a half of crawling on our hands and knees we were as close as we could get without pushing him out. At 300Yds it was a pretty far shot for the .30-06 but it was our only chance. So we decided to shoot as soon as we had a clear shot. He stepped out into and small clearing and I told her to shoot when ever she was ready. She settled on the shooting sticks and bam! Perfect shot right behind the shoulder. He went 40yds.and stopped and she put one more in him dropping him in his tracks.
The bull tumbled down the steep mountain side 100yds before finally stopping. I was really worried he broke some tines off but to my amazement he hadn't broke anything off. We left him last night and packed him out this morning. Just the two of us.
He is one hell of a first animal and hes bigger than any elk I have ever killed. I haven't put a tape on him yet but Im guessing hes around 320. What will he score? I'll score him tomorrow and give you the verdict.
