Yesterday I got my first deer with my bow, and what a rush it was. All of my bowhunting buddies urged me to take the very first deer I had a chance to shoot, just to get a feel for how it is, but I just didnt feel the same way, I wanted my first to be a nice one. I had been hunting all season, passing up a number of bucks (and having a bull moose put the run to a very nice whitetail) when a friend of mine invited me to come out with him and his son. He was nice enough to put me in his favourite spot ? a ridge that stuck out off of a bluff, with small draws on each side of me that the deer used as an escape route. It wasn?t long before a big doe and small buck came out, but they went off into the field. Shortly after, a nice looking buck blew out of the bush and started running my way. I really didn't think he was going to come up the draw I was perched above because he just wasn?t running in that direction, when all of a sudden he swung right around and started up. I immediately drew my bow and he was broadside about 3 seconds later. It took me 4 whistles before he stopped, and as soon as he did I put a shot right into the lungs. I was pretty useless for about 15 minutes after I shot him ? I have never had such an adrenaline rush ? the only thing I can compare to was when I shot my first deer. The guys were asking me were he was standing etc so we could start finding some blood and I could barely talk lol. Here are some pics of him.
(The rear forks on his left side blend into the grass in this pic)
