I would like to start off by saying thank you to Wes for his assistance in talking with me over the telephone. I want to thank Chops, and Greg for being there with me, for without them this may have never happened.

The hunt was a hard hunt, and a stressful one to boot. Without going into great detail on the bad, the day after I harvested this buck I locked up my motor going over harrison pass.

Now the good. It was Halloween, and I had passed earlier that morning on a decent 3x3, after a very grueling(to me anyway) hike up a hill. At first I decided I didnt want that 3x3 then I did, placed the crosshairs on him, but in the end just couldnt pull the trigger. We all decided to head back for lunch and then go check another spot a little lower that we had glassed the day prior. Around 3:00ish, we started glassing, seeing alot of deer and a few bucks here and there. Nothing to impressive. Then Lindsey said I've got deer. After a quick talk on, we had eyes on several deer. Greg stated he had a buck but could not tell how big, just that he looked decent before he walked behind a tree. We all waited for him to come out but he never did. After about 10 minutes I notcied antler tips just above the sage brush. Looked like a decent spread, but couldnt see more than maybe an inch or two of height. Something clicked inside of me and I said "I am going after that buck, I'm going to shootem, thats my buck." Lindsey asked if I wanted him to go with me and I said if he doesnt mind. We had about an hour left of shooting light and had to scale a small mountain (hill to him). We took off, and had to close about 700 yards (I think). We did this and had about 15 minutes left of light. I got my scope on him but could only see his face. He would not stand up and was bedded in some thick manzanita (i think that is the spelling). Anyway, lindsey said he was going to walk up the hill to hopefully spook the other deer that were with the buck. As I looked at him in the scope all I could see was that he seemed wide and maybe had a little mass, could not count points as he was looking straight at me. From 279 yards, I thought yup hes mine. Well to make a long story shorter, Lindsey got the other deer to spook and big boy stood up. Settled the crosshairs and BOOM! Well unfortunately, it took another shot to finish him, but he did not go very far, I closed the distance to 100 yards for the finishing shot. And that my friends is the story (condensed anyway) of my hunt.
