I needed a few opinion so naturally i ended up here..... My question: What are your thoughts on unit 15. Specifically the second bow hunt in this unit? Where does this hunt rank with other archery elk hunts in the state?

I was told that this unit and hunt were one of the best hunts in the state. No idea if that is true. Thanks for the opinions.

Lots of Elk , but lots of hunters when you include the UW tags , they will be screaming . Pm me if needed

you pony up for a landowner tag ?
I wish i had that kind of cash. I received a call the other day that a good friend had passed. His widow wanted to make sure that someone would hunt his tag in his memory and she called me, asked if i would to that for her. I love hunting and have hunted in several states. However, i have never archery hunted and have never stepped foot in this unit. I have 2 months to plan and prepare. Trying to do an old friend justice and give him one last successful hunt.

You cannot legally transfer a tag, only an unclaimed landowner voucher to buy a tag.
you can under certain situations. The State actually does a great job of getting these tags back to people. Resident First responders and veterans and all youth are eligible. There is also another category that deals with medical issues and military deployment. If you are in one of those groups DM me. might be able to get you or someone you know a tag. some amazing tags get turned back in every week.

Yeah... my 8+ month pregnant wife transferred a oryx tag to her brother years ago.... I already had a oryx tag or it would have gone to me.

I hear a lot of wolves have moved into #15 though.

Thats great! Did the tag transfer have to be approved by the Director of NM DGF?

Yes you can absolutely transfer tags. For medical conditions, death or deployment. Also “ Covid” is a reason now.

yes he is the one that approves all of them.

I don't know who approved it..... my wifey is the one that did all that.

Its interesting to learn from what biohazard stated that you can self - assign tag transfers. I will have to start putting in applications for my grandparents!

What loop hole? it is published by the state, available for all to take advantage of.
i am saying that i may have my parents and in-laws major health issues and are all to old to hunt- i could start putting them in the draw too and make my odds even better..- kind of like having a uncle get his guide licenses and the family use the outfitter draw...there is always a way to get around a system.

I would rather see you do that then to see the game and fish putting proclamation in Spanish.I didn’t think illegals could hunt legally but communist Stan worshipping mlg thinks that’s good to go along with her baby killing agenda.

slicktrick, you should stay in TX where you belong. The system is ment to be used when needed, not abused.

You need an outfitter license for the outfitter draw category, not a guides license. Much bigger hurdles to jump through. Nowhere near worth it just for that reason.

really and you dont think the outfitter pool gets abused ? where have you been the last 10 years? or how about the 13 or 15 thousand landowner tags that get abused ? do you really think that know other person has used the elderly or sick route or any other reason route ?- i dont have to use that crap- holding a unit 15 muzzle early tag in my pocket right now. I am just saying that if there is a system in place there is always a work around and someone will find it and use it.

Water holes filling grass is 12 inches nice and green should be good hornes it started a little late but it’s still going to be good for whoever drew me nothing.

We got soaked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon/evening in 15. Had a storm develop overhead in what seemed like an instant as we were the highest point for probably a mile in any direction…next thing I know, loudest bang I’ve ever heard as everything flashed white around us and the metal button on my ball cap shocked the hell out of the top of my head. The lightning was so close I couldn’t tell you if it was in front, behind, or on the side of us. Absolutely the closest call I’ve ever had while out hunting, it was terrifying.

But…it is green, the elk look great, and it seems like the monsoon is still rolling strong out there.
