My old man drew a muzzy coues tag. We are looking for a good place to start scouting. Has anyone held this tag and had success. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I haven't done it with a muzzleloader but I used to hunt it all the time when I was younger. We would go out geronimo trail from douglas and after you pass into New Mexico the road goes through a pass (mormon battalion sign). We would park there and you can either go south or north. I always liked going north. I haven't been there in years but it used to be great.

If you go to the southern portion of the unit
to access the Guadalupe mountains be sure and
take your map. There is private land mixed in
along the road and you have specific access points.
The land owners will also stop and try to tell you
that your parked adjacent to private land when you
are not. Have even heard of them useing fake badges
and being quite confrontational in the past. This is
some of the best hunting, but you have to deal with the
private/landowners. Once you get in, get as far from the
road as you can.

Thanks for the advice boys. I'll take the advice and use it when scouting later in the summer.
