O.K....here is the story.
Arrive at camp friday night around 9:30 pm. Set-up camp and get hyped. 12:00pm bedtime and wake up at 4:00am to saddle the horses. Clint goes outside of the trailer to get a juice and cannot find his 120 qt cooler. He immediatly goes to Zack and Brandon to ask them ( jokers ) where they hid his coooler. They deny it for 20 minutes and we all realize that two guys walked into our camp ( 1-trailer, 1-tent, 4-trucks, 2-horse trailers, 4-horses ) and walked right out to the road with the 120 qt. cooler.
If they were hungry, I would have made them a nice breakfast prior to the hunt. We all had our trucks unlocked with Zeiss Bino's, scopes, etc on the front seat of the trucks. There were generators, stoves, etc, that were all worth allot more money. Anyway, this cooler was very heavy and it took two of us to lift it into my truck. I bet they took it thinking they had hit the "Holy Grail of Booze"...............you would think they would look first at the truck license plates ( Yes it is "UTAH" ). IE: The cooler contained 5 blocks of ice, two dozen "caffein free" coke's and some water bottles. Don't think they were able to get to drunk that night.
Moral of the story, lock your trucks and put away any valuables...or anything you cannot stand loosing.
Back to the hunt. We decided to leave the horses for the pushes later and hit the ridge tops. Could see some deer on opposite canyons and to far for shots. I soon ended 400 yards above the others who were in a desolate creek bottom and standing there looking around thinging " and where do we go now" I was thinking that I was sure glad to be 400 yards up hill and in a position that I could still shoot something. Where they were at looked terrible.........just then I could see two hunters running down a hill and chasing some deer.....yea, right at my buddies in the bottom. I yelled "get ready, they are coming down the hill from the west", no sooner had I yelled....they started shooting! There were 4 bucks and 4 does on the run, Zack hit the 27" at 330 yards on the run and Clint hit the 25 1/2" at 430 yards standing. Once the shooting stopped, all I could hear was hooping and hollering. Great shots and I had a perfect view with "no shots". We all had our deer ritual ( Soda's and Candy Bars ).
Later that night we took the horses and pushed a few area's where Brandon picked up his deer. 200 yard running shot!
The second morning was realislow, rode the horses 9 miles and only saw a few does with a very small buck. We then figured that with the three "Dog's" who had filled their tags ( Zack, Clint and Brandon ), it was time to use them for pushes as the weekend was comong to an end. We picked a draw with alot of cover and had the two shooters ( Matt and Alan ) at the bottom of the draw. This cover was not over 200 yards wide and the "Dog's" were able to keep the deer from blowing out the sides and funnel them down. From the start of the push you could hear: Get-up, Coyotee Squeels, Breaking Branches, There's a bald head, Here comes a 2 point to the West, Cut him off, etc, etc. If you get my drift, it was not hard to figure out what was coming at you. Soon enough, does were blowing out the bottom and then a buck! Matt made a nice 200 yard running shot and 4 tags were now filled.
It was now very late in the afternoon and I was ready to go home with an unfilled tag and happy for the experiences we had so far. My buddies would not let that happen!!! Over to the next draw for a 4-Dog push! I drove the truck into the bottom and got ready a couple hundred yards up the opposite hill. There is alot of pressure on one shooter to not miss when your buddies have walked that far. Anyway, the draw erupted with noise clear up the canyon......I was laughing so hard I could not watch the bottom of the draw. Soon enough a doe and a few yearlings cam out running and went into a smaller aspen patch at the bottom. Clint had kicked up a 4-point and yelled " Alan get ready... a 4-point is coming". I could not use my bino's since there was only a few seconds that these deer would came out running and into some more cover. I soon saw a larger deer appear on the run, had my scope turned down to four power, got on the deer's front shoulder and pulled the trigger. Saw the 4-point bite the dust. I was yelling " YEA" and so was the hills ( ie: the 4-dog's in the trees ). They knew what happened.
This was one of the funnest hunts I have ever been on and to spend it with your best friends was awsume!
