trael camera range

how close do the animals need to get to set your camera off? i was messing with mine the other day and it seemed i needed to be within 15 yards or so. is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

My trail cam seems to take pics out to 30 - 40 yards. Well that was until I left it outside for a week in jan. I got some pics at a waterhole and they were around 35 yards away. But it was kinda windy so the grass could of set it off and the animals just happened to be there?
Which reminds me I need to get them set up soon

In my experience with the Moultries, they trigger great out to about 25 yards, and pretty reliable out to about 30-35. Not sure of the others.
