The following service projects by the DWR are going to need quite a few folks to help out. They are riparian projects but still need to get done. The UWC is providing whatever logistics/volunteers may be needed to help get these completed. Here is the info:

On March 20, 21 & 22 (pretty much all day, all 3 days, Tue, Wed, Thur), they/we need about 60 DH's/volunteers to help clip fins on cutthroats at the Glenwood (Richfield area) Fish Hatchery. We'll get wet and we'll need CLEAN (per whirling disease) waterproof boots, clean warm coat, clothing and vehicles. DH's will get up to 8 hours per day on their work requirements. The rest of us will have 8 hours of fun. For more info, contact Michael Jensen @ (435) 896-5218 or Blaine Cox, DWR @ (435) 865-6100.

On Sat. April 7, they/we need AMAP DH's/volunteers to plant willow stakes and other riparian seedlings along stream banks in Kingston Canyon (Junction area, Piute County). They didn't say, but it might be a good idea to wear CLEAN waterproof boots there also. For more info, contact Stan Beckstrom @ (435) 559-0797 or Blaine Cox, DWR @ (435) 865-6100.

Please contact our Service Project Director (Luke) [email protected] for more details and the logistics of the projects.

These are both aquatic projects, and you might wonder why Dedicated deer Hunters are working off hours helping little fishies, but the more DH's/volunteers we get, the less money we spend on aquatics and the more money gets put in other areas. In addition, we can't be doing projects that disturb big game in their winter ranges at this sensitive time. We'll get to that later!

Thanks for being conservation minded and helping out!

i dont get why the dedicated hunter program is allowed to work hours off on fish? or anything not pretaining to deer/ big game

Thanks. the DH program is doing no good for our wildlife if its not being used for them, just bugs me, DH get too hunt 3 years and 3 seasons each year for helping fish? makes no sense to me, I see no harm in volunteering or whatever but to get DH hours for it is not right. this DH program needs to be reformed for more projects for its intended purposes.

I don't see a problem with it at all. The DWR is responsible for fish and game both. If hunters spend a bunch of time clipping fins, that frees up Division employees and money to help with big game projects. Service is service, it's all going to help our natural resources. And if anyone feels like the DH's are getting too good of a bargain, why don't you join them?
