When do antelope shed?

Does the sheath fall off like an antler? Or does the new one push the old off? What time of year do they drop?

Hope this helps.

I have seen antelope loose a horn as early as Oct 15. That is not normal, but it does happen on occasion. Nov. is the month most loose their sheaths and a new one begins to grow and by mid summer most have full growth.

Here's a photo of a small buck, I took just last week and you can see he is pretty much there.

Have a great bowhunt. BB

I can't recall the hunt dates but years ago we had to be careful with the horns because they were loose. One guy pulled a horn off while trying to load the buck into a truck.
With that said, it was probably a late Oct hunt.

Thanks to you other guys for the info. I thought it was in Dec or January but I never really knew. Now I know it's Nov.

Hey Zeke that would be a great thing because then it would not have to be boiled etc to get the sheath off. I think I will hunt late this year hoping for that. Also then I can slide the sheath up a little for photos and cover the base to make it look like a bigger buck.
