So I inherited a model 670 .243 and was trying to see what year it was made.
Everything I find shows model 670 (70) ?
Is the 670 considered a model 70?
If so it shows this gun was made in 1949 but I don’t know if that is really right. Serial # 123816?
I’m confused lol

That’s what I thought a cheap gun
I plugged in the serial number and it said 1949 but I’m sure that isn’t right

My Dad gave me a model 670 in .270 as my 1st rifle in 1970 and my older brother had one in .300 WM. They are good rifles.

When the wife and I got married in 1978, I had to borrow her Dad's Lee Enfield 303 British to shoot my first elk. Hated that rifle, so the next year I went out and bought a Win 670 in 30-06 to kill my second one. It was an OK rifle, and had a natural oil finish birch hardwood stock, that had all the fit and feature of a #1 grade 2x4". Light as heck, and kicked like a mule. It only lasted a year or two before it moved on to someone else.

Winchester 670 rifles are decent rifles, with "hardwood" stocks instead of the more desirable walnut on model 70's. The finish is a little more coarse, and there are a few other cost saving measures.
Overall, still a functional rifle, that is more than serviceable.
They will never appreciate like a model 70 might, but they generally shoot quite well and are more than adequate in the woods.
They have there own serial number range, so you can't look up the number in a model 70 registry.

The model 670 was not even manufactured in 1949. See the post above for manufacturing dates. Yes, it may have the same serial number as a model 70, but you cannot look it up in the model 70 list.
I am not aware of a cross reference for serial numbers and dates for the model 670. Best guess is it was made between 1966 - 1979. ;)
