Shooting from the cab?

I was driving back from hunting last week in Indian Canyon just outside of Deuschesne. It was Saturday evening about an hour before dark. There were TONS of people with their hazards on cruising up and down the canyon looking for deer. I came up on one guy who was pulled over on the right and was looking across the road. I figured he had spotted something so I slowed down in case he decided to get out of his truck. To my surprise, I see his muzzle come out of the truck. Ok, so Im thinking he is just going to use his scope to spot, but I slow way down just in case. Im about 5 seconds away from the car, and I see/hear him fire from inside his cab! So, Im assuming this is completely illegal, and I should have got his license plate, but Im more concerned now about hunkering down under my steering wheel since Im basically straight in front of him. Just curious, anyone ever seen this before? I guess this is the next generation road hunter.

I've never personally witnessed it, except on poaching videos I've seen created by the fiah and game officers, and it is obviously illegal as all get out. Too bad it wasn't an officer driving up on him to witness him instead of yourself. Woulda been nice to see him get caught.

Definitely sounds like this guy has his own definition of "roadhunting".

Here in Washington it is legal for disabled hunters to shoot from a vehicle. Maybe it's the same way there?

A buddy of mine here in Cali has the number 1 license for shooting out of his vehicle. He is a disabled hunter and is in a wheel chair. Although he is disabled in a wheelchair, he gets out and sits in a blind at his property up in the hills. He doesn't just drive around and hunt from the truck. Muledeernut

Right after I posted that last reply I thought to myself, "I wonder if it is legal for disabled hunters to shoot from a cab in some states". Guess I got my answer huh? Something to think about before judging I guess.

It is legal for handicapped here in Idaho to shoot from the vehicle. But should watch others coming up on them.

While it's legal for disabled hunters to shoot from the cab, it is totally illegal to shoot accross a road.

Ahhh, I didnt even think of the disabled thing. I do feel a little ignorant now. Im sure the odds are against it, but still, I should have been a bit open minded. But the shooting across the road thing, that sure pissed me off. Im just glad I was driving a little Jetta when it happened. I think he would have shot right over me! Who would have thought a Jetta would not only be fuel efficient but also a safe hunting vehicle!

In Cali it's advised to use the door frame as a rest. Being drunk, it's far too dangerous to get out and stagger off the road. You could trip and have an accidental discharge!

WELCOME TO THE COVETED N.E. REGION OF UTARD WITH THE ETHICS OF SOME UTARDS!!!

I'LL BET IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN!!!

THEY OUGHT TO HAVE ENOUGH SENSE TO WATCH FOR TRAFFIC THOUGH!!!

THE BEST ROAD HUNTING RIG I'VE EVER SEEN WAS 3 YEARS AGO,AN OLDER FULL SIZE JEEP PICK-UP WITH A CUSTOM BUILT HUNTER HAULER RACK IN THE BACK,4 SEATS ON THE BOTTOM & 4 SEATS ON TOP,A SET OF ORANGE FLASHING LIGHTS ON TOP,IT WAS A SIGHT TO SEE!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL,NO,YOU HAVEN'T!!!

Hey, consider yourself lucky to see the the elusive NE hunter shooting during daylight hours. They are so used to shooting deer out of the headlights that they figure if they actually get out of the cab it will be too dark to see. Hey BOBSACK, I mean BOBCAT, I bet that rig of yours had some sweet spotlights.
Just pullin yer tail bud.

Is having a belly full of pork rinds, moon pies, and 12'er of Bud Light considered handicapped?

And I guess magnum rifles have longer barrels so you can shoot out the passenger side without sliding over from behind the wheel? :)

I don't reccomend shooting from a cab. The cabbies don't like it and some of them pack heat. Now shooting from a bus or other public transportation is totally acceptable, especially the bus that goes from the U to around Mill Creek. There's always a few deer along 215 through Holladay. Shooting from a train is pretty hard too because they are going 60 miles an hour. I tried hunting deer in Midvale a few years back from the Trax and was unsuccessful. It's hard to get the windows down. :D

I would have told the SOB that it is illegal, got his plate and on the spot called the DWR/Sheriff and had the idiot removed from the Mountain. It's sad to say that people have actually become so lazy that shooting out of the cab is the way they hunt. I would have given that guy a piece of my mind. Especially had I been driving towards him.

I'd still report it. Try to remember make of vehicle or talk to someone to see if they go the plate number. That's stupid, guys like that shouldn't be allowed to hunt.

So is it a no -no to shoot off a horse.People have been doing that for a looooooooong time.:RIMROCK

SHAME ON YOU RIMROCK!!!

WHAT OTHER HABITS YOU GOT???

WAIT A MINUTE,ONLY LIST THE ONES THAT ARE ACCEPTABLE HERE ON MM!!!

The guy shooting out of the cab probably accrued all those points using his wifes name!!! lol! What do you think bess???

BESSEY
OK your driving down a two rut crunching fresh fallin' snow under
your brand new BFG 33's. you throw the last can of your cold case out the window along with your empty cheeto's bag, strike a match
to torch up a big chubby, and you see the worlds biggest coyote crusin cross an open hill side, you jammer down into four low,
bust the snow berm and the chase is on as your sliding bullets into the 220 swift. While the under aged blonde that you just picked up at the local roller rink is hitting you on the head, tellin' ya to slow down,ya back hand her,she starts bawlin',ya tell her to shut the h-ll up.You throw the truck into a full-on power drift
coming to a stop, rifle out the window resting on the mirror.
the crosshairs settle on the boiler room of the dog.
As you squeeze the trigger you think to yourself knaw this aint ethical.BUT remeber this is one of those BIG coyotes you have been talking about!!!
