7 pts Res... Best Unit???

My father has 7 points for Elk. He is thinking that he better try and get on an LE hunt before he is too old... He is going to start puting in for elk again and would like to draw this year (Possibly next if need be) and have a chance at a decent bull. (He does not need a 350" bull) He would like a 6x6 as he already has a Heavy horned 5x5 he shot 22 years ago...

Any suggestions from you guys. We have been out of the elk loop for about 6 years now, focusing on deer... It looks like there may a few opportunities for him to draw this year, but we don't know if the hunts are any good (Like the Cache unit Hunts for example).

Any help would be great guys... Thanks..!!

Preferably a rifle hunt, however, he could also do a muzzleloader if anyone thought there was a real good hunt that way...

If I had seven points I'd go after the late Diamond Mountain hunt. Lot's of folks may disagree (Due to lot's of private land) but I hunted there in 08 and found some nice pockets of public land with some nice elk. It looks like 7 points would get you a tag. Good luck!

BR - with 7 bonus points you don't have much hope on a LE unit. There may be some sleeper CWMU's out there. I have a buddy and his Dad has 7 points too. Tough decision. I would agree that the Diamond late hunt may hold better odds and if he just wants to hunt and is not concerned with the size it may be his best option.
