I was looking at adding the State Of CO that give 24k Topo and Property lines on my GPS. Anyone using these maps from HunitngGPSmaps.

Tracker,
I just recently bought the one for Wyoming for my Etrex 30, I absolutely love it!! IMO it is definately worth the money, gives all the info about landowners for private land, so if you want to contact them about hunting permission, etc. Also has all current recognized roads, trails, etc. All in all a very useful tool, and smart investment.

Regards,
Jbo

Thanks. Is there anyplace to get a discount on them? I heard there are discount codes that may be available.

Bought this for New Mexico last year and it was a great investment. If you hunting a Unit with private land mixed in this is a "must" IMO.........

I have a Colorado and Wyoming chip. I always carry a BLM map with me to make sure of land status while using my GPS. I found that they are very accurate putting you on the map.

However, while deer hunting last year in Colorado I came across several areas that were private, which showed National Forest on the chip. I contacted the company to make them aware of the problems. I was told someone from the company was supposed to contact me back to get specifics, but they never did.

In WY, I have never came across any such issues while using the chip and BLM map.

They are a great tool, and I recommend them to everyone. I believe WY G&F are using them in the field to assist with trespassing complaints. Just wanted you to be aware of the issue I had with them in Colorado.

G14--Just a quick question for you. How do you know for sure that the property that was marked private was, indeed, pruvate? The reason I ask is that the guys at GPSMaps are excellent at following up on tips to correct mistakes and it's not uncommon to run into ranchers, outfitters, and even hunters that mark the public land as private trying to bluff people off and use it as their own.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-12 AT 06:49PM (MST)[p]Well, a couple reasons. There were several houses built on the different areas that were marked National Forest on the chip, but people living in them. They were marked with private property signs. My family has a cabin which borders National Forest, and I know from personal experience they don't take it well if you build a portion of a deck on their land. Even, though it was their screw up from 35 years ago. So, I'm just guessing they are not going to let houses being built on NF by people who don't really own the land.

In a different part of the unit, there was a big gate across the road that was locked with a big private property sign. At that time, it was the only portion of all the units I was hunting which I didn't have a BLM map for. So, I went to the National Forest Office and asked them about the area, and they confirmed it was private. It was a previous mine and the private property was in a weird shaped strips. I purchased a map for that area, and went back. However, without having a 1:24k map with UTM markings I didn't risk it. Of course, there was a shooter buck right in the questionable area.

When I returned to WY, I attempted contacting the company via phone, but no one answered. So, I contacted them via email to make them aware of it.

Matt Siedel responded and we had a short conversation via email. He forwarded my concerns onto a guy named "Eric" who runs the mapping department. I took the email as Eric was supposed to get back to me. However, no one got back with me. I still have the email.

I think Matt handled it very well, and it was probably just an over site by Eric. IMO, not that big of a deal.

Personally, I think the company is great for hunters, and offer an awesome product. I will continue to do business with them. I just always carry a BLM map to double check their work. After all, it is a human inputting the data.

I see they have a new way to upgrade their chips from your home computer, and you can view the maps on your computer. I think this will help with scouting.

I bought the down load but only because I was impatient. The only reason
To buy the download is you get to use it on 2 GPS units and you have print capability. The chip can now be used on your pc as well.

G14---Thanks for the response. It sounds like you need to contact GPSMaps again, as I've dealt with Eric on another hunting website that sells their chips and he's been a real stream of information for everyone. I think they will correct the errors, if what you mentioned is actually private stuff and it will help anyone else that has the chips since they are continually updating them. The new setup they're coming out with to do the updates right at home will be really nice. I bought the chip, rather than the download way, because I have a couple good mapping systems on the computer already and their site said downloading can be a real pain, especially if you aren't real computer savvy.
