If you were making the drive all the way to the South Slope, you just as well head south... maybe these guys don't know where Logan is..?
The North Slope has very low buck numbers. I have hunted there at least one season every of the last 14 years, and with family I can remember the last 20+ years. In the last 10 years I can honestly say I have seen only 2 4-point bucks hunting the North Slope all the way from Spirit Lake down to Red Canyon Lodge, and around heading towards Vernal. Both were in the archery, and I got a shot at the smaller one. (He ducked-the-string and my arrow went right over his shoulder.) But that was 4 years ago now, and I haven't seen a decent buck since.
Anyway, there is so much cover it's hard finding the deer. Last muzzleloader season we were discouraged and ended up spending our time calling in a 5x5, a 6x4, and a crazy 6x2 bull elk in the rut... We didn't see but one dink 2-point buck.
If you pack in and get to some higher country, (maybe below King's Peak, up from Henry's Fork..?) I imagine there are some bucks up there, but I've never hunted it, just hiked and fished.
Some good advice above is the wilderness areas of the Wasatch. There are some deer, and some nice bucks. Good Luck to ya no matter what you decide.
