While hunting in Wyoming we met a hunter there that said. The Game and Fish was looking at cutting back on deer tags for G and H do to loss of deer and deer habitat in those regions. Have any of you heard of this rumor?

This is correct. I have attended both of the wyoming range mule deer meetings and a reduction in tags is one of the ideas being talked about by the wyoming game and fish. A reduction in tags, shorter seasons and habitat improvements are the top three proposals in rebuilding this deer herd. I would suspect by next year some of these ideas will be in use.

WOLF control, NOT hunter control, should be priority ONE. Because Wyoming has it's head up it's rear, Idaho and Montana can no longer hunt wolves either. Blame the judge, blame the anti's, blame Wyoming. They want to cut back OUR numbers while the wolf issue goes nowhere.

Our family has been hunting Wyoming for the past 20 years. We've notice a reduction in both quantity and quality. The hunting is still good. We use to be able to hunt down lower but as the years went by, our camps have gone higher and higher to the point there at the top. I think this is a good move if the Game and Fish go this route.

The problem is if they want a real impact on the herds just from reducing hunters, G & H will have to change from a General Resident tag and that will be met with a lot of oposition from residents.

Moosey69 your right its does no good if they don't address the residents. Im sure they have thought of that but your right.

One idea being tossed around is to have a standardized deer opener. ALL areas open the same day. This would balance hunting pressure and force a resident hunter to "pick his poison" rather than hit G or H on the opener then jump to another opener at a later date.

ALL of you are correct,IMO.Reducing resident hunter numbers would help immensely, but good luck with that one.Another suggestion would be-1.Reduce rifle tag holders.2.Increase archery permits to make up for revenue loss from reduced rifle tags.Of course,Wy would have to go LQ in these units first. And that will NEVER happen in this state.
