Utah 2017 Buck

This was a solo hunt. General area. 6th day of the season, 3rd day of my hunt (I rarely hunt the opening weekend). Fairly close to the place where I got my last Utah deer in 2009.

At 9am I spotted the buck @ about 1500 yards moving very methodically with 6 very vigilant sentinel doe. They bedded down 3 times throughout the day, closing the distance a few hundred yards with each move. The doe always stayed 100 to 300 yards away from the buck, which stayed strategically in the center of them. I shot him as he got up from his last bed at 5:20pm. Much more to the story, but I'll leave it at that.

I don't own a smartphone - my camera broke while fishing in the Uintah's in August, so no pics where the deer dropped, unfortunately. I took pics the next morning with an iPad.

Yeah, I've been scolded for not caping it. I would not have though twice had I been closer than 3 1/2 miles from my camp, or had any one of my 3 sons been with me (2 had tags and my youngest had the mentored shared tag thing with me but none were unable to go with me). The 2009 buck actually had a really great cape and I had 2 packers with me - so, no excuse for leaving that one behind - except that my uncle was like "well, you just got your 2007 Henry's deer back, so you won't be needing another one on the wall..."

Yeah, in retrospect...shoulda shoulda shoulda

And, unless I find a truly amazing cape, I'll just stick with the Euro mounts.
