Do You Sit or Kneel?

I just browsed the Photo Gallery and I noticed there are a lot of "sitters" out there. By that I mean hunters sitting on the animal for the picture. So I ask this question: Do you sit on the animal for the picture or do you kneel along side of it??

You won't catch me sitting, I kneel.

I usually try to find a tree stump or rock to back up against, unless I'm in a hurry then I just squat;)

I like to prop the animals head up and then run back up the hill about twenty five yards sit down, and hold my hands up. This only works if you have a good camera man.:) Just kidding, just poking fun of those of you who do this, I know you're out there. Guilty.

I always try to find a spot that allows the buck's head/antlers to be skylined, and take the picture from down as steep a hill as possible. I really like to have a slight depression behind the buck so the hunter is down and the buck is up a bit higher. I usually like to kneel, but there are times when you can sit and it looks good, too. I'm always sure to put the bucks legs under him and roll him up, so he's more upright, too.

Good pictres take some work, but they are worth it in the long run.

I did type "Squat" instead of kneel, but changed it because that was wayyyyy to easy. hahaha You gotta love the arms straight out holding the buck by the last bit of antler, while the camera is as close as possible, hoping that it will look bigger than it really is.

Still wondering why some sit......

I sat on one one time and it looks horrible. I don't know why I did it but it was a great buck and I screwed up the one and only chance you get at a picture like that. My advice - NEVER sit on one. Sit or kneel behind them. Now holdin' out at my finger tips, well that's how all the magazines do it, right?

In the past I have sat and kneeled both. We usually take quite a few pictures. Over the last few years I've tried putting alot more effort into good pictures and you'll never catch me sitting on animal again.

This is what the buck actually looked like in a better pose.

Don't forget the all important pose of having your kids hold the rack too. I learned this trick from PETA. (Just kidding OT). LMAO!

I really like it when you put you kids in the photo. And where did you find the sheds they are really nice sheds. Why did you take the velevet off of the deer. But i think it looks really good.

Amy,
The velvet was just falling off in our hands that's why we stripped it. He probably would have rubbed within 24 hrs if we hadn't of dropped him. It was also pretty rough trip out of the highcountry to be concerned with trying to be careful with the velvet.
The rack that my kids are holding is my buck that I took in 2003. It is in the photo gallery. Here's a link if you are interested.

I am a kneel type of guy. I have sat on some for pictures, but later when looking at the pictures I don't really like them. I kind of think it is disrespectfull as well. I agree that one should take as many photos as possible. Film is cheap and you only get that time with that animal once... but to each their own.
