Washington Permit Bucks?

Born:

Give me a week or 2 and I should have some nice shots. Got a late whitetail permit hunt in gmu204. We will be leaving Nov 12 and hunting till the 18th. Hopefully we will get some cold weather to get the whiteys rutting!

Give me about a week or two also....my ol' man and I are leaving tonight for our late Chiwawa tags. I got 3 days this week and 5-6 days next week if I need em'. Don't plan on shootin' anything this weekend, unless it's really impressive. Definetely get pumped though!!

O.k. guys, sounds good, I wouldn't wait too long though some awfully nice bucks got shot the last week and more than usual with the weather. The rut in my opinion was accelerated this year. Can't wait for some pics. I know of some hogs shot the last week. Muleyslyr I know that area well, typically there's heavy horned bucks with that permit can't wait to see your results. Where you from? how many points did you have before getting drawn?

I had 5pts, this was the 6th year putting in for it. My dad and I drew partners so we'll both be looking for a dandy. I might be a little more picky then him, since I already took a good buck in Wy. a couple weeks ago. Either way we're both gonna hold out for something nice.:)

I'm from the westside but have a place in Entiat on the Columbia River I might just stay at if the weather isn't gonna let us stay where we want to. Hopefully the weathers got them thinkin' about ruttin'.

Looking for one of those wide, thick, knoby based, dark racks!! Hopefully 180+!:)

Also, make sure that you keep good tabs on your animals after harvesting them, don't forget what happened to me a couple years ago with my permit buck. Sadly there are those types out there that will go to extreme lengths to get a nice set of antlers...................rf

Good luck on your hunts. No Washington tags for me. I leave on the 14th for Montana. I hope I have some pictures for you when I get back.

We need to see some more WA bucks, man I wish I had a late tag again this year, maybe I'll draw again soon, NOT!

I just got back from North Idaho, the whities aren't moving much yet, but the muleys are going ape sh@#.

Going out to help out my father and sister in law who drew a partnership tag for the Quilomene late buck permit. It will be Jennifers first deer, so any buck will be a great experience.
A couple of days in the Quilomene will get the blood flowing for my late whitetail hunt up North!

I know a lot of good bucks were already taken during the last week of Oct. Which the season ended on the 29th. Everybody I talked to said the bucks were already rutting hard. I'd get in there ASAP. Most of the migration deer weren't there yet, but the local, and early migrators were already ruttin. Even if they aren't rutting, there are LOTS of nice bucks to be found, and a lot of deer.

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Hey Muleyslayer,
Were you and your dad hunting on the 5th in a gray Dodge pickup?

I went out yesterday and counted 14 bucks, 4 shooters. I should be getting the pics on here soon. The biggest I didn't get a picture of. He was coming closer to me, and I wanted a full frame. I knew as soon as the shutter went, he would stop. He walked into this pile of brush, then never came out. I could have shot him easily enough, but getting a great photo is another story. He was about 28 wide and very tall. He had one small cheater and one weak back fork. One eyeguard was also a little small, but still scorable. He was still a nice 180+ net buck. I wouldn't have hesitated smoking him. I should have good pictures of the other three. Two were four points and one was a nice three. One four was a little short of raffle status, but a permit hunter probably would have bagged him. The other would sure have made your trigger finger itch. The three was nice, and I may have shot him just to put him out of his misery. He was having so much sex, he couldn't even walk, and his tongue was hanging about his knees. Poor bastard.

Cant wait to see the photos. I didn't make it over this weekend, my daughter talked me into going and ripping some chum lip. How was the weather? I hope the predictions are wrong, that we are going to have a hard winter.............rf

Got back last night from first 3 day weekend over there. Was pretty productive I guess. My dad and I saw a total of 25 bucks. Unfortunatly not the knarly migratory pig I'm looking for. Made my dad pass on a 24" 3x4 the first day....he was on one knee with the safty off. I had to convince him we could/will do better. Saw 7 3pt. or better and lots of younger bucks. Even the little spikes and forks had their noses up the does azz.

We need some more weather up there! Some old crunchy snow left over from last week, but only in places. Did see 3 nice migratory bucks being taken out of there though. One was absolutely jaw dropping! I watched him shoot it from about a mile away as they were driving down the road!! I couldn't tell what it was from where I was at, but I ran into them on the road later that day as I was leaving. 28" wide, but the bases were like my forearms, with knobs stickin' everywhere! Just huge....exactly what I'm lookin' for.:)

So, headed back over on Wednesday...I think it's only gonna get better.

Shane....I'm driving an 02' black Dodge P/U, but was not on the roads much....just can't seem to spend the day driving around like those guys over there.

My Dad just sent me an e-mail that he got some more wet white stuff last night. It didn't sound like much. It was drying up where I was at. Not much crunchy stuff left. Man the sky looked ugly though. I didn't have much light to work with for photography even mid day.

I flyfish for chum alot, but didn't get over there this fall. That is sure fun. I like to go to Canada for it, much less competition. They hate the things. I haven't crossed the border since 9/11 though. I heard you have to have a passport, and I haven't taken the time to go through all of that. I'm kind of cyclical. Sometimes fishing starts hegdging into my hunting time and vice versa. This year was pure hunting.

Muleyslayer-We ran into a father/son in a Silver Dodge that said they burned 5 preference points for the Swakane tag. That got me thinking it might have been you but I guess another father/son team got drawn also. They are having about the same luck as you. Good Luck! Did you get a picture of that big bruiser?

Bone-We go to Canada several times a year. All you need is a birth certificate to cross over. A few more questions and a longer line is the only difference.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-09-04 AT 09:57PM (MST)[p] Back from the Quilomene helping my father and sister in law with their partnership late buck tag. What a awesome hunt it was.
We passed on 6 bucks early yesterday, and put Jennifer on a nice 21" solid 4x4. This was her first shot at a deer, and she made it count. I got her about 100 yards from the buck, and one shot later it was over. Gentry aka Littlefoot was across the ridge watching the whole thing. By the time we gutted out the deer and climbed back up, he was there with his atv to yank it out of a deep canyon. Let me tell ya, I was VERY thankfull. Next it was Darrels turn. He just wanted a meat buck. We weren't seeing any bucks in the late afternnon, so we made one final trip to the end of the ridge. I spotted a doe, so we got out. There was a nice 3pt there, so Darrell popped him, and that was it. Backed up the truck, and the rest is history. It kinda nice when a plan finally comes together!

ps Slayer:

Keep your hopes high for a bruiser. I passed up 80 bucks in 3 days a few years back on a permit hunt, and I'm glad I did.
Keep up the trigger control and bring home the BACON!

Right on...glad you guys had a good hunt! I'm headed over this afternoon, so I'm starting to get into the mode!:) Doesn't sound like there's been any weather over there the last coupla' days. Oh well, I know those bucks are still movin'. Hopefully I can keep my dad holding out too, but, I he's got a pretty ichey trigger finger:). Gonna be fun though.

BIG BUCKS....NOOO WAMMIES!

My father, brother in law and I drew 371. Can't wait for next week!!
My first time drawing produced this after passing on 8 bucks and loosing sight of a booner. Learned my lesson. Anyone else get drawn for 371?

We want to see some pics of those firing center bucks after your hunt. That's an area I've always thought about putting in for but haven't due to concerns over access. Maybe its worth it though.
