I figured I would re-post these so they were not burried at the bottom of my other "Bithday Wish" post and I don't think anyone saw them. These are a few pictures that I took this year while pre-season scouting up in CO for my hunt. I'm trying a new hosting site and this re-sizing thing is kickin' my butt! Sorry! Check out the buck in the first picture. I wish I had some better shots of him from different angles. He was the only good buck in that group and at the time Deerking and I were much more interested in a bigger, more impressive buck that was on the same hillside. To me he sure looks a lot like the buck I ended up taking this year but it's hard to say for sure. This picture was taken about 4 or 6 miles away from where I ended up taking my buck. These pictures were taken in early August so the bucks might have still had a little bit of growing left to do.

So what would you guys think? Does he look to you like the buck I shot this year? Maybe you can see something that I've missed that will confirm that eihter it is or is not him. If it's not him they sure must be very closely related though.

A closer look.

Here are some other pictures from this summer.

Nice 4x5 on the left.

The buck on the left is actually one that I originally planned to hunt for this year. Hopefully he made it and I can find him next year!

I know this is one of the most unique bucks I've ever seen in my life. Jeff is actually pretty sure he may have seen this buck in previous years and that he probably grows this same way every year! How about that mass! His right side is nearly as thick as his ear! The picture isn't all that great. I blew it up a little so you can see what looks to me like 3 different antlers coming out of his head! Unbeleivable ain't it!

I hope you like the pictures.

Good luck to all those that still have hunts ahead!

WoW Shawn! You and Jeff sure had some fun this year. I don't think I've seen that many bucks together at one time.

As far as your question about the buck in the first photo, it's hard to tell with camera angles, but to me, it appears that the buck in the picture has deeper forks in back. And just looking at the photos, I would say your buck's G3 tine (I believe its the G3 tine that is the front side of the back fork) looks shorter than the buck in the picture. It's too bad we can't see the eye guards on the buck in the first photo. Those usually are easier to identify.

Congrats again on a great buck!

Awesome Pics Shawn! I say that buck is a dead ringer for yours, if it was the samw area, thats him!

That big 4X5 has a humongo body on him.

I just noticed that your buck was whole in your truck.....I cant believe you were that close to a rig for a deer like that!

Shawn, great pictures! Thanks for sharing them with us. I would have to say that the buck in the first two pictures looks an awful lot like your buck. If its not him than it is surely a brother or relative of some sort. the other pictures are great as well. Those are a few real nice bucks and your right that one is real weird. I agree looks like 3 antlers to me.

Congratulations! You must be very proud.

Thanks for the comments!

Russ, I still haven't really got serious and taped him exactly yet. I did rough score him at 182" gross. He has 19 1/4 and 19 1/2 inch G2's! WY was pretty much a bust this year. Never even seen a monster buck in the 2 1/2 weeks I spent up there? Even with snow on the ground! Maybe next year?

190MuleyHunter, the pictures of these bucks don't even come close to telling the whole story. DK and I saw over 40 bucks in about the first 2 1/2 hours of the morning. I beleive the biggest bachelor group we saw was 12 if I'm not mistaken. A handful of them were darn nice too! Old Deerking is like a muley magnet!

Hornseeker, the buck was actually only taken about 1 mile or so from the road. This is the first one that I've ever got out whole and it sure was nice! Quite lucky really! Especially since I was hunting by myself. Without a little snow and a nice wheeler trail I would have never been able to do it. Usually I'm in quite a bit farther and have to bone them out. It sure was nice to take him home all in one piece!

Berto, I just boiled the thing myself and then cleaned up and scraped off what was left with a pocket knife. I put about 2 cups of chlorox in about 2 gallons of water and boiled it for around 3 hours. I heard it would work from a buddy and figured I would give it a try. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I guess it'll keep it from stinking up the house while I'm waiting for the taxidermist to get his stuff together.

Oh man, Oh man, ....You guys are killing me, LOL!

I was told that using chlorox to boil your skulls with is not really a good idea. I heard that it can break down the bone structure and make them become chalky especially if you over do it. I just wanted to bring that up so nobody else will mess up their bucks with this method. Mine turned out ok but I think I was just lucky. We did the same thing on my brother in laws buck and it pretty much ruined the skull. It became very brittle and broke apart. We thought it might have just been because we cooked it too long but now I'm pretty sure the chlorox probably contributed to our mess. Just wanted to let everyone know so they won't make the same mistake.

Thanks for the heads up Moosie!

boil in sodium carbanate, it works well to get the meat of the bone then after skull is cooled down then pour bleach over the skull...I saw that done this year looked good too.....

I got my mount back from the taxidermist about 1 week ago and thought I would share a picture of it with you guys. And yes BuckSpy, I also wanted to bump the whole freakin' post back up to the top! :)

I am really very happy with the way the mount turned out! Kelly Black does a great job!

Only 7 1/2 more months and we can start all over again. Hopefully I can end things with a similar result! :)

Sure wish I had my mounts back already. I shot mine in late August too. Should just be a couple more weeks.

The mount looks great!

Looks sweet! Can't believe you got that back already! I haven't even got my 03' buck back yet, let alone 04's. He did a good job too.

ne....a very nice mount...i think you might enjoy that one for years' to come...congrats

Shawn
Man that buck looks familiar! Great looking work your taxi did, bet you are running out of wall space huh?

Thanks for the kind words about my mount! I hope those of you that are still waiting for yours get them soon.

DK, running out of wallspace will probably never be an problem at my house. If it ever becomes an issue I guess there's always room for some pedistal mounts on the floor! :)
