heres some details:
Matt Liljenquist with his 2010 Arizona Strip Archery Buck
With his dad, Randy Liljenquist and good friend Blake Chapman in position to help with hand signals, Matt and I stalked to 52 yards of this bedded buck. After a short wait in the 95 degree sun the buck got up and walked to 32 yards broadside. I gave him a grunt and Matt sent Rusty Ulmer?s new broadhead on its way.
Matt's buck gross scores 240 and has a gross typical frame of 228 7/8 by an official measurer - net score is pending 60 days drying time. I can honestly say Matt and Randy are some of the nicest people you will ever know and it could not be more deserving. I am grateful that they let Blake and I be part of their fair chase hunt.
Thanks,
Chad Smith

awesome deer Chad, one of these days we'll hunt together. It's unbeleiveable what you find out there.

Guys;

All of you who questioned wheather or not Chad Smith was the best guide, in my opinion, this should help with my choice.

Chad Smith and Blake, with Vaquero Outfitters, year after year,
put their clients on monster bucks.

Chad does it the old fashioned way, he glasses his guts out, and finds the great bucks, and then closes the deal.

Chad doesn't use cameras, fly a parachute plane, or any thing else, like I said, he hunts the old fashioned way!

Just my opinion---

Before saying stuff that just isn't true, do some research next time. Chad Smith uses trail cameras along with radios. Most big bucks are killed on the strip because of trail cameras. In fact, the fair chase statement for Pope and Young and Boone and Crockett states no electronic devices to locate. I don't see how this buck could be a record without signing ones name to a lie. In my opinion, it has gotten out of hand with the trail cameras. People are using every means possible to kill these bucks especially on the strip. It is a great buck, but for me it's just another big buck killed by whatever it takes. Whoopti di

LAST EDITED ON Sep-23-10 AT 06:49AM (MST)[p]I don't see a radio or a trail camera in that picture. I see a monster buck that someone is very proud of. Way to take the high road, its funny how many people want to take away from other peoples success in order to make themselves feel better.

Congrats to the hunter, what a monster.

6X5:

I have no information on the beautiful buck posted in this thread other than it was obviously taken with a bow and arrow and it is from the Arizona Strip. For me to comment on anything else would be inappropriate at this time.

Having said that, your comment regarding the P&Y/B&C Fair Chase statement and the use of trail cameras IS inaccurate. Both Clubs accept entries when trail cameras are utilized. The only trail camera that does violate the Club's Fair Chase rules are the electronic "live feed" trail cameras where a hunter can monitor from another location. All other "normal" trail cameras are fully acceptable from the Club(s).

Thank you for addressing that trail camera thing... I've always wondered about that...

As far as the buck, he is a stud...!!! Obviously, since he's a pending world record, but still, he is as majestic a buck as I have ever seen in video or otherwise...

Roy,
Thanks for correcting me on the trail camera thing. I have always wondered about that and its great to get an answer to that. The fair chase statement is very vague. I'm sorry I came across the wrong way. I was just correcting the false statement that Chad doesn't use trail cameras and hunts the old fashioned way. When in fact he does use trail cameras and radios. It is a great buck and congrats to the hunter. I just hope that one can actually sign their name to a statement and have a clear conscience. I'm sure people have lied before and will keep doing it to get recognition. I know radios are not allowed. Correct me again if I'm wrong.

"I know radios are not allowed. Correct me again if I'm wrong."

If radios are used in a manner that guides a hunter to the animal, then it would NOT be accepted into the records program. Use of a radio to check in, etc., with hunting companions are acceptable. Basically the point where a radio is used merely to guide someone in on an animal is a violation of the Club's Fair Chase statement.

Roy,
Thanks for the detailed info. A few more questions. How about the use of a radio to call a hunter over to an area where a deer is? Is that considered acceptable? Where is the line drawn and where can I read this detailed info? Seems the statement is really vague, and the way it reads it includes any use. Thanks

6x5,

It seems to me you don't care to much for record books so why are you even worried about others getting their names and deer recognized in them. If you don't want to use trail cameras then don't. IF talking on a radio is to much for you then don't do it. If the others are not breaking the law when using these devices then why are you concerned at all.

I do know just because you get a picture of a good buck doese not even mean you will ever see it again let alone harvest the deer. It may enhance your drive to hunt longer and pass lesser deer throughout the season. Pictures of lesser quality deer may make you avoid those areas, then again someone may harvest a monster in the area you have only seen smaller bucks. It comes down that its hunting and giant muledeer are hard to come by no matter what methods are used to try to harvest them.

I have pictures that I have taken with a hand held camera of some real nice SD public land bucks. I know where they have been living all summer. Will I even get to see one of them tomorrow when the season opens probably not. I will not feel ashamed if I do harvest one of those bucks because I used technology to scout them. My camera zoomed in on them and I took a picture, I also looked at them with a spotting scope from afar.

Another thing don't bring people down because they have harvested an animal bigger then what you have, be proud for them. Just because they went guided doesn't make it less special. If you don't care about scores and such then people harvesting large animals shouldn't even be an issue.

Anyways I am just tired of people tryin to bring others down because of jealousy.

Good luck hunting

Again, I'm just correcting a false statement from Steve about Chad. All guides on the strip have to use trail cameras, radios, etc. in order to compete. Hey, I'm all for going back to the old fashioned way. When you find 6-8 cameras on one water and at least 3-4 on many others, I think it has become a problem. The fair chase statement is very vague and seems to cover all electronic devices to locate. Is there something in writing that says whats good and whats not? Or is it just on how someone feels it should be? Use of a radio to call a hunter over to an area where a deer is. Is that acceptable? Record books are for recognizing great animals. Maybe there should be an old fashioned one and an anything goes one. Right now, in my opinion, things have gotten way out of hand. Where does the line get drawn that enough is enough? As far as the animal as I said before, what a great buck and congrats to the hunter and guide. I love the comments from those who don't know anything about the strip or never stepped foot on the place. LOL

Would you like go tell me who you are ???

You called me a liar!

I have hunted with Chad Smith for the last 4 years , and have never known Chad to use cameras, trail cameras, to locate deer.

Chad does not fly to find big deer.

6X5 would like to back up what you say with personal knowledge or just shut up and go away.

When ever someone finds big bucks year after year and gets them harvested, with their clients, people will say they cheat.

Jealously, is a terrible thing.

Just because you say Chad uses trail cameras does not make it true.

Why should we believe what you say?

Tell us all who you are and where you get your information.

I'm waiting!!!!!!!!!

guys - he has 30 posts and horn envy. Why bother. statements like all guides do it only prove that. He is talking about perceptions and not reality.

Just because he hangs with unsavory types he assumes everyone is that way.

Again, congratulations to the hunter. You should be proud of your accomplishment. Anything aside from that in this post only takes away the glory of such a beautiful harvest.

Steve,
You're telling me that Chad or none of his guides that help him use trail cameras or radios? If you're saying that, then yes you are a liar. In fact, you have been running cameras all over down there yourself and you are suppose to hold pictures in confidence because of the study. Now you're saying you have been hunting with him for the last 4 years. Wow! I think you're running you're mouth a little too much. Go ahead and pm me. I'll tell you who I am you clown.

6X5;

Blair was correct.

Continuing to talk to folks like you is a waste of time.

Your only claim to fame is bad mouthing others.

The buck Matt harvested is fantastic. A big congratulations to all involved, especially Matts father who got to share the experience with his son.

Steve

Wow. Steve you call me out and I say pm me. Then you don't. I'm sorry I'm not willing to share myself with the worldwide web. You're the one that is a waste of time. Can't admit you made a false statement about Chads guide service. Which you indeed did. And I also said above if you read that the buck is great and congrats to the hunter and guide. Bottom line, stop making false statements and running you're mouth.

You are talking to the wind cause no one is listening-----

Bottomline is you made false statements. Pretty simple. PM me if you want to know more. I've spent alot of time out there. Alot more than you ever will. So I do know what is going on. You'll need another 20+ years out there if you have only been there for 4 to catch up. And there are alot more guides than Chad out there that kill big bucks year in and year out. This will be my last reply to you too. I can play that game too. LOL

6x5,

You are right I have never hunted the strip but have shed hunted down there a number of times and have archery hunted the Kaibab lol. The smile on the hunters face says it all to me.
