38 is probably your best bet. No guide needed.Thinking of burning my points on a cow moose hunt this fall have 16 points never will be able to draw a bull tag. Its either use them or quit anyone have any ideas on units or outfitters?
Thanks Brian
It’s only money, you can’t take it with you and they keep making more of it. You asked if it’s worth it? Of course it is to many people. Maybe not you. That’s why there’s no leftover cow moose tags. A simple search of draw odds shows how many people are interested in using their points on cow moose. Not trying to be sarcastic or controversial, I’m just curious. If you were to get a cow moose tag with your 16 points, how much would be totally invested including cost of points, license, and tag??? Just wondering if it’s worth it. When they raised the point cost a couple of years ago I had about 5 points and after much study I ended up walking away. Just wondering if it was the right decision or not.
If the Wyo G&F decides to go to a weighted bonus point system in lieu of the current preference point system, would that enter into your thought process in deciding what to do? Just a thought. Most of the task force discussion has centered around changing the current system for residents. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that they wouldn't have 2 different drawing systems for non-res & res for the same species, but who knows. Maybe some else could chime in on this.Thinking of burning my points on a cow moose hunt this fall have 16 points never will be able to draw a bull tag. It's definitely your call but there is areas with big moose you could draw with 16 points.Thinking of burning my points on a cow moose hunt this fall have 16 points never will be able to draw a bull tag. Its either use them or quit anyone have any ideas on units or outfitters?

You meant one type 4 he couldn't draw, correct? As of last year there was only one area he could draw with 16 points as a non resident. But I'd take any area with a bull tag over the best area with a cow tag but that's just me might not be what you want to do
No I meant one bull tag he could drawYou meant one type 4 he couldn't draw, correct?
It was an anomaly. I know he would have drawn it last year, but odds were and are low he would draw it this year. Better odds in the few units with random odds I would think rather than guessing which unit might slip this year, if any do. I think with 16 points, a cow tag might not be that bad of a call to get out. Would be an easier call if the cow tag prices were lower than bull permits. No I meant one bull tag he could draw
No reason to drop the price on cows, they sell out every year.It was an anomaly. I know he would have drawn it last year, but odds were and are low he would draw it this year. I'm fully aware that residents don't have a pref pt for E/D/A and the non-res do. The task force is seriously talking of changing the pref pt to bonus pt for moose & sheep. I heard no talk of differentiating res from non-res in those discussions. The focus was on the resident draw, but they may include non-res in the change. I guess if it were me, I'd wait out the task force and see what transpires. Or, he could calculate the odds with a weighted bonus point system and see where he lies in a new system and then make a decision to get out of the game. I just drew a moose tag last fall and with the current "once in a lifetime" legislation looking like it will pass, I'll be done with moose hunting, at least in Wyo.They already do for Deer, Elk, and Antelope.
Convert all the type 6 and 7 reduced price tags back to full price Type 4 and 5. Would correct many things....and cow elk need to go up to $400-$450 for NR's...we're selling those out too.
Supply and demand and all that.
This "anomaly" I've seen happen in the past and that tag has been drawn with 18 points 4 out of the last 5 years I'd probably hang in there if I was him but it's his points not mine.It was an anomaly. Area 36 was 50% draw with 19pts for NR. It took a minimum of 15pts for residents to draw a moose tag in area 36.With 16 points I would stay the course. Bull tag in area 36 took 7 points last year. Not all units have a high demand.
You are correct. Not sure what I was looking at....sorry about that. Somebody got a steal of a deal for their points!2021 NR area 36 moose had one nonres license. I just looked again at the Fish and Game website draw results. 7 points drew it. I know it won't happen again but it did last year. I don't know how to screen shoot it and post it here but it's on the draw results.
True but once the 90/10 kicks in next year that tag as well as many others including the majority of the antlerless tags will most likely be gone for NR’s depending on the how those NR tags are actually allocated under the new 10% resulting in massive point creep. This "anomaly" I've seen happen in the past and that tag has been drawn with 18 points 4 out of the last 5 years I'd probably hang in there if I was him but it's his points not mine.
Good luck in the draws! Hope you get a tag!Well just had moose meatloaf tonight from my Iast bull I took in Alberta it's some of the best big game meat you can have. I'am getting to old to play this game anymore so I think it's freezer time for a cow can't eat the horns anyway I already have a set of Shiras horns in my pole barn. Don't think drawing a bull tag is possible time to forget horns a get a cooler full of meat.
Congrats, definitely a good choice with where odds went to! 38 will be fun, saw a number of moose up high a few Falls ago right off the road that goes over the top from Centennial to Saratoga through the Forest.Well draw results our out and I drew my cow moose tag not I just need to just get planning on my one and only moose hunt in Wyoming. Anyone theta can give me any suggestions on this hunt would be appreciated it's unit 38.'
Thanks Brian

Glad to be out of the point game looks like drawing a tag is going to get worse thanks for the infoCongrats I had my ?crossed that you would draw your tag this year!
Taking a quick look at the draw report it looks like the lowest point total that was awarded an antlered preference point moose tag was 20.
Four antlerless moose tags preference point tags awarded in 38 with two going to applicants with 17 points and two with 16 (one being you). 25 applicants with 15 or less points below you didn‘t draw unfortunately. IMO you made a wise decision on the use of your points before the 90-10 kicks in next year.
I don’t know anything about unit 38 but I hope you have a great time on your hunt!
Horniac
dido on the moose point game. Lucked out and drew this year also before the big changes. Congrats and enjoy.Glad to be out of the point game looks like drawing a tag is going to get worse thanks for the info
We focus on trophy elk, mule deer, antelope and moose hunts and take B&C bucks most years.
