    Low Moisture Winter for Utah

We have head some improvement from recent snowfall. Parts of Eastern and Southeast Utah are back to normal but Northern, Central and especially Southwest Utah are still very dry.

Over Counter Archery Deer in Utah

Thanks guys, that is good to hear that there will likely be some youth archery tags. Are most of the general season deer units available for youth deer archery? Or are there only some units likely to remain?

Over Counter Archery Deer in Utah

I should have applied for a general season archery deer tag in the draw but I didn’t, I had some other hunts out of state that I thought were going to take precedent but now may not. Also my teenage son just in the last few weeks has really gained strength and interest in bow hunting and might...

Navigating the Application Process of the Colorado Big Game Draw

This is the only state I've seen where you have to buy a small game hunting license ($85) in order to apply for the big game draw. I doubt this makes them money in the long run as it is confusing as heck and just discourages out of state applicants, a traditional source of cash for most...

    Barbary sheep hunting

I’ve never thought about these but after reading about them they sound like fun and challenging. What is the point of hunting? For me it is to connect with nature in the most fundamental way, all while building relationships and memories with friends and family.

What Utah unit should I try to draw?

That is a bummer, I have heard some good things about the Book Cliffs roadless unit in the past. I was even thinking I might put in for it with 12 elk points I would probably draw it for archery. The Filmore unit had a super low harvest rate for archery elk last year (just one hunter out of 13...

Navigating the Application Process of the Colorado Big Game Draw

Okay I figured it out, you add the small game annual hunting license to your shopping cart (nonresident in my case) and then it automatically adds a habitat stamp to your cart and it unlocks the other big game draw species.

Navigating the Application Process of the Colorado Big Game Draw

I've applied in Colorado in years past when it was a paper application but I am new to the online process and was wondering if you guys could help me out. It says on the website that applications are accepted March 1st, but several places also say I have to buy an $85 small game hunting license...

What Utah unit should I try to draw?

What is going on with the herds in the Book Cliffs? Does your assessment include the roadless section?

    Low Moisture Winter for Utah

Overall most of the State is in a pretty low level of moisture as I write this here in nearly March of 2021. There is some time for this to change but it isn't looking great. I'm wondering what everyone's predictions are for the effect of a dry winter. Thanks https://www.ksl.com/weather/snowpack

    Archery Beaver or Pavhant?

Wow 8.3% harvest success for Filmore archery elk unit last year, that is rough stuff for a tag that took 14 years to draw... The dry hot conditions were tough but other units had similar weather and harvest rates were much higher. I am sure the six additional days in the season will help for...

    Archery Beaver or Pavhant?

Thanks for the tips. I would have expected Monroe to be less crowded given that it is further away from the I-15 corridor, towards the less populated part of the state. If I narrow it down to Filmore and Beaver, the latter is two additional points to draw than Filmore, so I’ll probably apply...

52 yr old with 26 points, UT

Some very good advice here. Waiting forever for these famous units can be a real waste in some situations, though everyone is different. Some guys have different strategies for different states and I can understand wanting to draw a unit or bust as long as you have other options. But the older I...

    Archery Beaver or Pavhant?

Hey guys I’m at 12 elk points so I’m still a few years off but I’m looking at the Filmore, Beaver, and Monroe units for archery elk. I‘d like to start scouting and planning though. Everybody wants to talk about the bulls in those units but I’m wondering if there are major differences relating to...

    Slim Odds at the expo!

They say the lottery is a tax on the foolish. It Is also stupid to sit and put your quarters in slot machines, but people do that too because “someone wins.” But I’ve heard just one person explain to me a rational view of gambling: He said “Look I know that the house always wins and I will...
