November 2023 Off Range Oryx hunt

Gorilla super glue is what I use for skulls where the smaller bone segments separate (I use it for loose teeth too). It works well, and you can’t see it if you do it right. Very nice euro!

    2022 Meatpole

Filled my elk tag on 9/5. I really enjoyed having my daughter along too. Very blessed to be able to live and hunt in NM!

    Sandia Mountains Turkey

Cool! Thanks for the input! I agree that we should have an earlier archery season as well. Good luck in the draw!

    Sandia Mountains Turkey

Howdy! I was curious if any of you have hunted the Sandia's (Unit 8) for turkey in the last few years, and how you felt the quality of the hunt was? My daughter drew one of the turkey tags in the Sandia's, and I'm looking forward to hunting them a little close to home. Just curious about...

    Aoudad Success

Congrats on the great ram! As to eating it, I've eaten four Barbary that ranged from a young ewe to a 14-year-old ram, and it's all been fine if you take care of it (like most game meat is). I only do ground because the meat is fairly tough and doesn't make good steaks or roasts in my opinion...

Recomendations for good quality Taxidermist with reasonable prices?

Geno, do you happen to have any pics of your work by any chance? The reason I ask is that I'm likely going to need a replacement taxidermist in the next 6 months or so, and I'd like to take a gander at your work if possible. Also, just out of curiosity, what's your approximate turnaround time...

    Bow Sight: Fixed or Dial?

+1 on the Black Gold Ascent 5-pin. If you're going to shoot longer distances, having a slider sight makes a huge difference. I was shooting a fairly fast bow (330 fps) and bottoming out my pins in the sight housing at about 80 yards, so being able to move the whole housing down allowed me to be...

    Arrow rests

I use the Ripcord Ace, and I really like it, but the QAD is a great rest too. Whatever you get, make sure you can let down without the rest falling. I had an original Ripcord rest at one point, and it would fall when I let down and my arrow would hit the shelf and create noise. If you're letting...

    New Hunter Please Help!

Couple thoughts on boots and caliber: Boots - for expensive boots, I've used Kenetrek Mountain Extremes and Lowa Tibets, and after several years of getting blisters on both of my heels, I sold them, and bought some Keen hikers. For whatever reason, the super-stiff boots wear down my heels...

    New Hunter Please Help!

+1 on the book above. I also have several books from the North American Hunting club that are beneficial, especially for the new hunter. They're a little old, but much of the info is still valid. I also really like the Western Hunter magazine and their TV show that's also available on DVD...
