Getting ready to head 8 hours over to Show Low for my first Arizona elk hunt tomorrow. It’s the late muzzleloader tag. Any last minute tips or expectations? Would you try to put a hole through the first decent bull or hold off? Thank you very much and good luck to everyone else with tags still in their pockets.

How'd your hunt go? I haven't ever hunted the muzzeloader elk hunt so didn't have any advice to give. Bummer nobody else chimed in.
The hunt went great! I shot my bull opening morning. To be honest I probably could have held off for bigger, but I have never harvested a “mature” bull. I am completely happy. The weather forecast was high winds and no snow which also made me shoot one on the first day. Wish I could hunt that area every year haha. P.S. I wasn’t trying to long arm the pic haha

That’s a damn nice late muzzy bull for 3b! I would say it’s at the top of the heap for the bulls killed on that hunt. Congrats!

Congrats on a nice Bull ! .. Can you share the details on your ML projectile and powder choice ?

I pulled a 3b archery tag this year. I know how new member questions are viewed, so I am appreciative of anything anyone is willing to share. I have more general questions of sxs or is truck ok? Traveling from Michigan so huge added expense to bring sxs. Are elk found pretty much everywhere throughout unit? I have a plan but would love additional input. What I should or should not pass early in the hunt. Bugles or cow calls more effective. Planning to arrive 16th and hunt till end of season which I believe is 26th

You can basically hunt that whole unit in a truck. There are a few places a sxs may be beneficial, but not needed imo.
