Ever had a new string blow up before?

I had my bow come apart while shooting at a buck two years ago. It was wild! After it came apart, the buck stood there watching me make sure I wasn’t bleeding anywhere. I took it to a local dealer afterwards, he strongly insisted the string failed and not the bow. He actually accused me of...

WHAT HAPPENED TO COMMON SENSE AND RESPECT

I suppose we should get used to it? It gets worse each year. This year on the archery hunt was as bad as Ive ever seen it for that kind of stuff. Complete lack of respect is right. We figured if we had a spotting scope out, we might as well of had a sign that said ?Come glass right next to...

    More Wasatch Front Archery Only???

The purpose of archery only areas is not a "ME ME ME" reason. This way of thinking is tiring. Archery only areas have very intentional reasons behind them. If people are not willing to see past the "ME ME ME" attitude, they will never get the ideas behind such areas.

    More Wasatch Front Archery Only???

I've hunted the extended areas for almost as many years as they've been open to archery only and they are completely different places now compared to years past. There was a time when they were not crowded and the hunting was as good as it gets in my book. It's still good, but has become VERY...

    Luck Buck Monster

Stud of a buck there my friend! I appreciate the honesty in the story. Incredibly refreshing to hear the whole truth about how it played out. Too many guys only telling what makes them look best. Always twisting the perception of things. Again awesome buck and a great story. Thanks for sharing...

    Book Cliffs Deer Survey

I've only spent a few years down there helping friends and family with tags and even archery hunting it for myself not too long ago. My guess would be the average archery buck that comes off that unit is less than 140" and the average muzzy/rifle buck is not much higher than 150"-160" Again, I...

    Book Cliffs Deer Survey

If I were to see the survey results and had never stepped foot on the books cliffs before, I'd have unrealistic expectations for a hunt in this unit. They seem very misleading. If you had to guess, what would the average buck score that comes off the Book Cliffs?

Does it really matter what brand bowstring?

Yes it absolutely matters. Bad strings are just that.....bad. They will stretch more and give you timing issues among other things. A good string will do neither. Winners Choice are NOT what they once were since they were bought out. Stay clear of them. Zebra strings would be a decent choice...

Any advice on a lift/suspension kit for my 2016 4Runner

I have ran spacer kits, Old Man Emu, and most recently did Fox Coilovers. All have been leveling kits. Both the OMU and Fox are very nice off road and firmer than stock on road, but not in a bad way. I found the Fox coilover set up to be hands down better off road than the OMU. The harder you...

    Slick Tricks

I have shot several elk, two of them being bulls, and a few deer with Slick Trick Mags. All have died quickly with two holes and good blood trails. I really like these heads. Tough, thick blades. It usually didn't take too much tuning to get them to fly as I wanted them to. My only little...

  16. blazingsaddle

Muscle memory, stability, and group size?

Stability also comes from proper form. Make sure your shooting form is on point. As far as group size. That's a scary question to ask on the internet. Some say 1" for every 10 yards. If you can shoot that well, you have nothing to worry about. I wager there are not a lot of archers that are...

    Fierce Rifles

I have a .270 short mag made by Fierce. It is a nice rifle. I have it printing well below MOA with hand loads. Fit and finish are good as well. My brother also has one of their rifles, we both believe they were money well spent. When we were looking at builders, it seemed Fierce was a lot of...

Good Single Pin or Multi Pin Slider Site

Sliders IMO are the way to go. Either it be a single pin or multi pin. Having the ability to dial the exact range is nice. It makes things easier as you could imagine. I personally shoot a 3 pin slider. Pins set at 30,40, and 50. I do not have to make any movements on any shot out to 50 yards...

    22-250 for deer?

Funny thing, I just just shot a mule deer with a 22-250 yesterday. My undoubted conclusion is it's absolutely enough gun. I only used a 50 grain ballistic tip. It worked exactly as one could hope. There wasnt much left of the heart and lungs. It also gave me an entrance and an exit hole. As...

    My velocity seems slow....

Just an update. Frontier was correct. My chrono was reading my sabot. I moved the chrono further away and was able to get correct velocities. It read a 9 shot string for an avg of 1740 ft/sec. This is more in the ballpark of where I thought it should be. Thanks everyone for the help.

    My velocity seems slow....

LAST EDITED ON Aug-11-16 AT 10:17AM (MST)[p]Snake- Thanks for the sarcasm. Of corse it will kill deer, but that's not my worry. Frontier- Thats an excellent thought! I was 10-15 feet out in front with the chrono. I will stretch that to 20 or more and see what it reads. I never thought of that...

    My velocity seems slow....

I do have the replacement breech plug designed for the 209 powder. I am using the crushed rib sabot from Harvester. I will bump up one size and see what happens. The bullet/sabot does slide down the barrel very easily. Much easier than my other muzzloader ever did. I chalked it up to a new gun...

    My velocity seems slow....

LAST EDITED ON Aug-09-16 AT 04:08PM (MST)[p]I do fully understand it's a muzzle loader, not a barn burner. I also figured the shorter barrel would slow it down some. But it does still seem slow....I compared it to the load data charts off Blackhorns website and it suggests the same. It does not...

    My velocity seems slow....

I finally found a load my new rifle likes to shoot well. My speed is quite slow compared to what I thought I should see. Hoyt Rampage XT

My wife shoots that bow. It's a nice bow for the money we paid. I'd say if the price is right and you like the way it fits/shoots/feels, buy it. The Rampage doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but they do what they are intended to do.

    EOTech

I have an Eotech on my AR. I absolutely love it. But I only use my AR for rabbits and dicking around. Nothing that needs high precision. What I like the most is target acquisition is very quick. As for dead batteries, I carry an extra set. I do have BUIS just in case it's life threatening though.

    Pin settings

I would not put any of my pins at 5 yrd increments. I like big pin gaps, it allows me to see more. Plus, pin gapping is easy enough to be proficient at. That being said I shoot a 3 pin slider. Set @ 30, 40, 50. Any animal under 30 yards gets what we call "top pinned".

Plus another for FMJs. Especially for a brown bear. Throw some weight on the front end to get a high FOC and add to the OAW. On a big thick animal, KE is great, but momentum key.

Advice for left eye dominant son

I too am left eye dominant and choose to shoot right handed bows. Why are standards flexible?

Because I can and do get within "bow range" , under thirty yards of dozens of mule deer bucks every year that are not mature and people on this website would call them "great archery season bucks". They are stupid deer, that's why so many get shot by bowhunters. I have absolutely decades of...

It's a Ford vs Chevy thing.... Pretty much any of the sight manufactures make a slider version. Spott Hogg is my personal favorite right now. They are extremely well built. This comes with some added weight too though. CBA, Black Gold, Sword, etc. make good sights as well. Some still like...
