Advice For Texas Mule Deer Hunt

Your dates don't line up with the general Texas Mule deer season. Some ranches are in the TPWD MLD Program and have a longer season that may line up with your dates. Get ahold of mike at WTHO. He is likely your best bet to put something together.

Is OnX looking at way points, stealing spots?

The joke is on OnX. My spots are such good secrets not even the deer know about them.

    Non Resident OHV permit- 2023

That is correct. I did not know you already had a registration. The NM wording is a little tricky stating "All OHV riders from out of state require a permit on public lands and display a validation decal." Then there are the exceptions listed below. If the GW says your good then you're good.

    Non Resident OHV permit- 2023

Yes you need to buy the temp permit. You will input make model and serial number to go with the paperwork, and they mail you a sticker. It is a pretty easy process. I bought the 90 day permit for a deer hunt last year and I just ordered it a few weeks before the hunt. It showed up a week or...

    Let's kill time

Been applying since 2020 as a nr. Drawn 2 deer tags, successful on one of them. A kind person on this forum contributed greatly to that success.

Gonna miss the hunting here but........

You could always hunt in Oklahoma. Fair amount of public land a few hours drive from Amarillo way cheaper than TX leases.

    Senate Bill 254

I suppose the increases were justified for one reason or another. But the proposed NR increases gave me some real sticker shock.

New Regs...2,695 draw tags for 34 elk

Looking over the new proclamation it looks like deer tags in several units were cut from 10-12% for any legal weapon hunts.

    2B

What causes all the hype for 2B? Looking at the proclamation it is labeled a standard hunt with some high demand. I'm guessing it was a good unit before my time and still pulls the application numbers based off of a bygone era.

    Unit 29 deer?? September?

Its hot dry country. There is a good amount of does, however last time I hunted there I never saw a buck, though I'll admit it was a new type of country for me. Otero county does a good job with the roads considering what they have to work with but you could still thrash a pickup a long way...

    Fishing trip

Definitely a great time to be fishing, the action and the weather is nice. The hardest part for me was eating all those salmon. After my second fishing trip there I figured if I never ate another salmon I would be fine. But black rockfish and halibut are a different story.

    on X

Onx is a great tool and I use it almost every day for my job and also hunting. I keep my tracking lines from past hunts to supplement my hunts when I come back to those areas.

    NM Unit 34 first archery

Bucks are sparse, and the ones you will find will generally be forkies and dink 3x3 and 4x4 with shallow forks and weak frames. Good bucks do exist in the unit but finding them can be hard even for folks familiar with the unit. Snow could be deep, roads are everywhere, and don't over think the...
