What's your closest shot ever on a bull elk?

Bugled this one in and shot him at 5 yards with my 300 win mag.

    Show us your hunting rig

I have been teetering back and forth with the thought of a Tahoe. I also thought it could work well to sleep in the back of it at a trailhead when I get there late. I will have to move these farther up the list. This was a great write up with a lot of info. Thank you!

    Show us your hunting rig

Been working my tail off so I can sneak to the hills when I finally get a tag. I’ve had to relocate to find good opportunities for my kiddos. We’ve just been living the dream and staying outside as much as possible. How have you been?

I’m not a fan of Kennetrek. I liked them several years ago, but I feel like there are better options today. I have bought my last pair, I will be going a different direction moving forward.

    Show us your hunting rig

One day I’d love to upgrade my old half ton pickup and build a new hunting rig. I won’t be hauling a trailer with wheelers on it, I just want a comfortable ride over rough roads. Maybe something to sleep in the back under a shell, or to throw a rooftop tent on. I had thought of building off of...

    How many trips

This was a couple years ago. Full boned out deer, and camp. Did it in one trip. Camp was 4.3 miles deep. The deer was 1 mile deeper from camp on the back side of a ridge.

    ANY BLASER FANS OUT THERE???

I’ve been drooling over them for a while. They’re fine guns, but a ways out of my reach price wise. Guys complain about the price tag of a gunwerks, blaser paved the way for them with that clientele.

    BaseMap vs OnX

I have both on my phone right now, I have been comparing them side by side. While both apps have some advantages, I feel like the basemap app suits my style better. OnX is a little quicker when it comes to loading data while in the move. If I am driving down the road, it can typically keep up...

LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-18 AT 12:25PM (MST)[p] I purchased a Nikon P-900 this fall and I have really been enjoying it. I have taken several pictures on the auto setting, but I'm really wanting to learn the manual settings. Is there a resource you would recommend to learn the ISO and Aperature...

    Youth hunters

Thanks for all of the good feedback, I agree that time spent with the gun is more valuable than model or caliber. We are doing a lot of work with a BB gun and 22 for now. I ended up finding a used Weatherby Vanguard compact youth model in 7mm08 at the local sporting goods shop. It is in great...

    Youth hunters

My kids are almost to the age they will be able to hunt. I plan to take my daughter out for her first deer next year. I see good things about the Savage youth model rifles... what other options should I consider? What calibers should I consider? I am in the early stages of research, I would...

    Split second decision

It has been a while since I've posted. I figure why not start here. 2018 has been a rough year for me when it comes to muleys. After working hard but getting schooled in Wyoming, I was hoping my Utah tag would be different. Opening day, the pumpkin patch held true to form. We easily saw 10...

Trying to justify new gun technology

I know this seems like a rhetorical question, but there are so many options out there for new rifle calibers, how does someone decide what would be best for their individual needs? I have been doing a lot of reading and really like what the 6.5X284 has to offer. One of the negative arguments...

I've also had bad experiences at Humphreys. I took my bow for a tune up, after the first shot my sight fell off. When I told them about it they acted like it was my problem. I can't handle the level of arrogance at that shop. Jakes in Orem is absolutely worth the trip. Ziis shop in bluffdale...

    Book Cliffs Late Elk

My Father in law drew the late season Book Cliffs elk tag. I have spent a lot of time down there over the years, but never during the late season. Has anyone hunted it before? Where is a good place to start scouting? Is it worth scouting early at all? Are they in similar areas that I've found...

    Boulder Early

I drew the tag last year with 19 points. I spent 21 days on the unit before the hunt began. I know I would have killed a bigger bull had I used a guide. After waiting that long for a tag, there is a lot of pressure to get the biggest bull you can. I had a different idea though. Antler size is...

    Camo debate

Buy what is the most comfortable and durable. Camo patterns are fun to look at but none of them conceal movement. Stay in the shadows, keep the wind in your face and move when they aren't looking. If you do that you can kill a buck wearing a great looking Hawaiian shirt. I'm a huge fan of...
