I've recently been diagnosed as legally blind. I know Utah allows a designated shooter, has anyone actually been involved in a situation like this? I just want some feedback before I apply.
I was saddened to hear that Pat F. passed away in April. His books were quite appropriate reading during campouts and hunting trips with the rare clean humor missing these days.
Just looking for opinions which unit has the better access. I know they're all difficult but trying to decide which way to go. Not too concerned about the trophy quality.
I have a decent chance of drawing this tag. I've read all the archived posts and am looking for more info to begin scouting when the high country opens up. PM's are welcomed.
I'm looking for a good antelope unit for my teenage son. I call operators every year but I am looking for some of your personal experiences(good or bad) that may help me narrow our options. I know next to nothing about antelope hunting so any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance

I'm hoping someone has information they can share about this hunt. Are the goats scattered throughout the unit or concentrated on Bald Mountain? What about populations and access? I'm trying to narrow my choices for the next draw. Thanks
I was somewhat surprised at the low prices some of the tags went for. Someone got a great deal on a Deseret bull for $7200. Boulder premium did go for $25500. No surprise that John Mogle won a gun and the best hunt of the night(a sheep hunt).
First time posting pics
First time posting pics on MM. This was shot in AF canyon.
My first effort at digiscoping. Two bulls about 1.75 miles away. Forgive the quality, I'm just playing around during this cold weather. Now I need to figure out how to make the pics smaller.
My question is would it be a waste of money to hire an elk guide in my home state (Utah)? I'm only considering this because it would most likely be my only elk hunt, and I'm not so confident that I can do it myself. Any thoughts?
About 11:00am today (Tues) in Spanish Fork I saw a DWR truck go by with several elk racks in it, including one very large head. I was just wondering if these were poached. Has anyone heard of anything like that happening?
I'm just wondering if anyone has insight on the late hunts in Utah. Are some units better than others, especially concerning whether the elk will be on private land? I know its probably a tougher hunt but I think it might be worth a shot.
Which is more likely to be successful in the rut? Also will north or south latitudes have any influencce? Just trying to decide on whether to try those instead waiting many more years for a LE rifle tag.
Has anyone used this camera yet? I know it's new and I haven't been able to get my hands on one yet. This would be my first D-SLR. I have a Pentax SLR and I understand the lenses are interchangeable so I'm hoping this is a cost effective way to get into digital.
I'm going to Enterprise for the weekend and I'd like to go see some elk. Can anyone suggest where they might be this time of year? Pine Valley wash or Hamlin Valley?
I know this is a vague question but I'm wondering what are your opinions/experiences with Cwmu's. I have 9 points so Deseret is a long shot. I've called a few already but I'm curious about the quality of bulls and any services other units may provide. I know some are a do-it-self project...
How do you think the draw odds will change next year with the fee increases and the shifting of permits, etc. I'm debating on trying for the premium tag with 10 points, but it will depend on the unit I decide to apply for. Any thoughts?
John
I've never harvested an elk yet, so I was wondering if someone can post pics showing racks of varying scores, i.e, under 300, 325, 350, etc. If I draw this year I don't want to shoot the first one because it "looks big". Thanks, John
I'm hoping someone can share some info about this elk unit. I've not been there in many years and I wonder if there are any private land issues and the overall condition of the herd. I'm considering applying for LE bull. Thanks, John
What do you all think will happen in the draw next year? I think with the split of the archery and muzzloader tags it will be more difficult to pick a unit based on previous years' draw results. Will the odds on limited entry bull units go up or down?
I am wondering if anyone can help me decide what unit to apply for. I'm debating between Skull Crack and Weber-Florence CWMU's and the Lasal limited bull unit. I feel I have a decent chance to draw with 8 points, but I don't want to wait another 10 years to hunt more popular units. Any advice...
I'm in the process of deciding which to apply for next year. If anyone has experience (pro or con) with some northern UT CWMUs, any info would be appreciated. Mostly I'm interested in how the operators are to deal with, such as rules on access, etc, not on the animals themselves. Thanks John
