If you fail to report on a hunt in AK, you are not allowed to apply for any special permits the following year. I think you should be happy you were fined only $50.
Just to clarify, 70 North is a TRANSPORTER, not an outfitter...There is a big difference. I have been TRANSPORTED by 70 North several times and have had good experiences although I have yet to fly in or out on the dates I wanted, but that is what happens given the variable AK weather and 70...
You can also try shooting a mechanical broadhead, such as a Rage expandable, instead of a fixed blade broadhead. I have found the Rage expandable broadhead shoots the same as a field point.
I live here in AK and I think you did well on your bou hunt. Coming up here for the first time on a hunt is an eye opener for everyone. Thankfully, much of it gets far easier after the first time! Nice photos, and congrats on the successfull hunt.
I have not hunted in 501, but many years ago I hunted 590 for several years in a row. 590 is southwest of 501.
Antelope are not typically well-liked by ranchers. If you are willing to drive out there and knock on doors before season, I bet you'll find a few ranches who will let you hunt...
Hunting wolf here in AK is also 90% luck unless you have a plane, spot them, and then pursue them from the ground in that area. For this reason I know very few hunters who specifically target them...hunters, no, trappers, yes.
Good luck to you
That is a really nice set, and your son should be very proud. I would like to see a photo of the set together, if possible.
Do not let the negative folks out there get you down. They are the downside to posting anything on the net, and the reason I very rarely post these days.
I and my family have been on the Phillip's 26 Glacier Cruise out of Whittier twice in the past 5 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sent out of state friends on it this summer and they also enjoyed it; saw puffins, otters, whales (even one orca) and of course, 26 glaciers :). Bear in mind most...
i do not know the timing of your hunt, but the end of august is a good time to go to avoid insects. the downside is weather may quickly become winter-like, so there is a risk, but the same risk exists anytime on the N Slope.
i am not trying to rain on your parade, but several of the...
These antlered beauties are rare around mm, so I thought I'd offer a few photos.
I found these last summer in a very remote place. The good news is few humans, if any, will ever hike there except for me. Thank you God for wild places that will stay wild!
squirrel, i don't know you and i don't know the troll that has recently attacked you, but the troll likely has little first-hand knowledge of anything he/she is writing about and as a result is using terrible judgment wielding what little "power" they have thanks to the internet.
you obviously...
the salmon runs are about over for the year. silvers recently began running, but you'd better get here fast. halibut catching is also winding down. plan the trip for next summer instead.
many AK bush pilots either use airstrips that have been used for years or scout a suitable location with a heli in the off-season. it goes w/o saying experienced pilots are the most successful eyeing the ground from their fixed wing prior to choosing a suitable piece of ground for...
i recommend you spend time searching and reading the hunting section of this site: http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/
also check the hunting section of this site, which of course is all important: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=home.main
if you are an archery hunter, or you are a...
Wow, quite a story...congrats to the three of you!
Having grown up in MT and spending 20 years hunting there, you brought back some great memories...especially my memories of hunting in beautiful river breaks country.
Best of luck next season.
Bozeman, Zigga, and Spitz,
i am 100% in agreement with you guys...you guys crack me up! some people will never admit private land hunting is nothing like public land hunting...the two are and never will be any more comparable than are night and day :-)
thanks for the laughs.
RE: Best Gaiters for Horn Hunting???
i use this outdoor research gaiter:
http://www.rei.com/product/725915
i have abused the crap out of them, especially in brushy country WITH snow, and put on alot of miles with no gaiter problem. they only come in black, but imo that's not a bad thing.
i never bothered looking at "the fort", but i have noticed the scads of deer that tend to hang above blue cloud...people must be going into those hills and hiking around or you would have found some sheds during your survey work.
i definitely would not bother looking in the scratchgravels :-)...
some day you kids will no longer be in school and have real jobs like most of us that require you to be at work "throughout the drop" unless you take the oh-so valuable, platinum-coated, coveted paid time off :-) :-) :-)
Bwaa ha ha ha haaaa!
