    For or against ndow rec

LAST EDITED ON May-07-12 AT 09:28PM (MST)[p]I understand that arguement, but I think that theory holds more weight if a herd is approaching or at carrying capacity, or some other major herd limiting factor, but the overall deer numbers have been so low over here the last 5 or 6 years I do not...

    tag numbers are going up

Bombardeer, What about the units that haven't had a fall count in 3 or 4 years, makes me question if they can really get an accurate buck to doe ratio in those units. And in all the reports the buck to doe ratios that are observed are a far cry in most units from what they actually use as the...

    For or against ndow rec

I'm agianst. If there are that many people out there that need to shoot a two point every year then we need to look at managing some units for more opportunity, and keep the quotas more reserved in others to try and satistify the trophy aspect. None of the winter ranges in the South eastern...

    tag numbers are going up

LAST EDITED ON Apr-30-12 AT 02:02PM (MST)[p]I personally can't see where any of the winter, or summer ranges here in Eastern Nevada are anywhere near or approaching anything that remotely resembles carrying capacity. If you read the 2011-2012 big game status report not one of the biologists...

    Nevada Governors tags

We on the White Pine County game board voted to have the year round season, for the simple fact that if the season were to run year round it would make flying for the purpose of wildlife against the law year round.

    nevada 221-223/timberline outfitters

lostinoregon. The reason there is more guide tags then regular non-resident tags sometimes is that the guide graw quota is based off the previous year's quota. The guide draw is set before the quotas are set for the year. ex. say NDOW decided to increase tags this year then there will be more...

    guess the score

That bull looks to be all of 360 and maybe more. Big mature bull chest beams are at lest 53-54. Thirds are better than 20 4tth's look to be close to 20-21 and fronts are at least 16 if not better, only thing he may be lacking is in the fifths, hard to tell if he even has one on the right.

    2008 recommened quotas

The reason for the decreased deer tag quotas was partially winter and partially drought. The bioligists observed doe to fawn or recruitment rates were way down, and the is what drives the population model is fawns per 100 does.

    Best Elk Calls

Ed, I like the primos hyper lip it is my favorite cow call, also good to have a few mouth diaphram calls as well, I also use the terminator elk bugle by primos, shouldn't take to long to get good, just practice around the house Cindy will love it. Thomas

    Spike Elk?

The commision made that clasification into a state law a couple of years ago so that the bioligists had it as a tool in the tool box in case it was ever needed as a way of controling the bull ratios.

    What's the big deal???

I don't understand why hunting bulls in July is worse than hunting them in the middle of the rut with a rifle when they have lost all senses and wariness. Sure they are pretty visible in July but there senses are 100 times more keen.

    115 deer

Neither Moriah or Wheeler are what I would Call difficult access. Windy has roads all over it as does Oneal and 4 mile. The unit is actually very roaded. The only place that isn't is the Park obviously and the wilderness. Plenty of roads and plenty of deer. I just don't like to hunt where...

    Which Buck Would You Take?

The droptine buck does have a damaged horn, he must have broke it off before his front fork developed, and there was two main veins still holding on a and supplying blood that pooled in the bottom of the dropper. Unfortunatly he broke it off when he shed his velvet, and didn't have it when we...

Should I use the whack'n arrow again this year

My question is: Should I use the arrow/ broadhead that I harvested my deer with last year as the #1 arrow in my quiver again this year. I am a little superstitious and last year was the first year I killed a buck with my bow, and I want to keep all the luck I can.

NV 114, 115 Research In Progress

Water is spread out plenty, by that time of year those bucks will be about half nocturnal. I think that most of the pressure will be on top of Moriah out of the wilderness, but you are not far off base with your guess of a lot on the north end of the park either. The bad part about the park is...

Unless we get a lot of weather to get the bucks rutting a little early then the will be within a mile or two of where they summer, as the bucks start to think about the does a little, the will start moving form the high country on the south end of 114 and move to the mogahogany country to the...

NV 114, 115 Research In Progress

The unit does hold some good bucks and you can do all the map research and talk to biologists and people that know the area, but unless you spend some time actually in the field scouting you will waste your whole hunt checking spots. An early rifle tag over there, you will need to bring a good...

    Nevada 221-223 Late Muley tag

    mule deer broadheads

G5 Montec, did the trick last year, 62 yards quartering away traveled the length of him exited the opposite shoulder blade and kept sailing down the hill. I think I am going to make it the #1 arrow in my quiver again this year. Buck went about 60 yards.
